Sure.

I'll give you the layperson's version.

Basically, an "Eid" is anything that repeats itself and comes after a regular cycle of time.  In this case, we have Eid-ul-Fitr, which is the day that marks the completion of the month of fasting, Ramadan.  Islamically, it occurs on the 1st of Shawwal.  It is a day when no one is to fast, there is a special prayer done in congregation (it usually pulls out the most number of people every year at any one time to the masjid).  People are supposed to be happy, and meet and greet each other, visit family, some people remember family members or friends who have passed away, and exchange gifts.  'Eid is celebrated colorfully in many different countries acroos many different cultures as well.  It is still a time when Islam modesty and regulation is supposed to be observed and is by no means a permission to "get on like mad".

'Eid ul Adha is the day that marks the test that Abraham Peace Be Upon Him was put to by Allah SWT when he saw in a dream to sacrifice his son Ishmael Peace Be Upon Him (the Christians and Jews believe Abraham was told to sacrifice Isaac).  He trusted Allah SWT so much that he sent his blade down, only to look down and see a lamb was sacrificed instead and his son was a ways away.  At that time, there is also a Eid prayer and meat is sacrificed in the name of God and distributed to the poor and family.

My sheikh has told me jumu'ah, Friday, is also a sort of 'Eid since it comes regularly as a happy day for muslims to observe, mingle and congregate in Islam.  All three days, a person should take an Islamic bath (ghusl- a bathing with spiritual intention and focus) and wear new or clean clothes.  Think of it as an appointment to see your Lord.  You would be at your best right?

If I have gone wrong in my account, Allah SWT forgive me, and someone correct me please.
