| I wanted to translate this short article becuase it made a lot of sense. the author is ahmad Othman. If there is something that has a difference of opinion in scholars, go beyond it to read the things that relate to your common sense. You might like to listen to certain singers and follow thier latest news. I doubt you need me to clarify that it is haram. You are probably aware of this aya: 031.006 YUSUFALI: But there are, among men, those who purchase idle tales, without knowledge (or meaning), to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah and throw ridicule (on the Path): for such there will be a Humiliating Penalty. PICKTHAL: And of mankind is he who payeth for mere pastime of discourse, that he may mislead from Allah's way without knowledge, and maketh it the butt of mockery. For such there is a shameful doom. SHAKIR: And of men is he who takes instead frivolous discourse to lead astray from Allah's path without knowledge, and to take it for a mockery; these shall have an abasing chastisement. وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُواً أُولَئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ [لقمان:6]. And also aware of this hadeeth: (I will get the exact translation insha'Allah) narrated by al-bukhari وقال : { ليكونن من أمتي قوم يستحلون الحر والحرير والخمر والمعازف } [رواه البخاري]. But let's just use our common sense, if you believe there is a difference of opinion... Do you not agree most songs revolve around love and angst and lust? DId you ever hear of someone who is unemployed by choice who hastened to be an active healthy part of a community after listening to a song? Have you ever heard of someone who abuses his parents who treated them kindly after listening to songs? Have you ever heard of someone failing school work who became a great success because of listening to a song? Have you ever heard of someon who was trangressing against Allah, who repented because of a song? Finallay, have you ever heard of an Ummah who got up and was elevated on the hard work and dedication of its singers?? |
