True Story!!!!

Assalamu Alaikum,

This is a true story, Subhanallah.

Wassalamu Alaikum,
Betul

And Remember:
(Lo! Allah changeth not the condition of a folk until they (first) change that which is in their hearts)
Meanings from Surat: Ar-Ra'd
Ayah: 11

I sent my young brother to get me iftar from a local restaurant;
I honestly thought we had no food in the kitchen,
may be two boiled potatoes, oil, spices, bread...etc,
but no food...
huh?
I just couldn't imagine having two old, hard, boiled potatoes for Iftar!!!
I'm not asking for much, only local food, nothing swanky, just tasty,...
So I sent my brother...
The Maghrib prayer call started,,
my brother had not came,
I was hungry... I had dates, - I forgot to mention that in my kitchen's contents, but that's just dates-....
Then I went to pray the Maghrib, secretly supplicating that my brother would come... I don't want to eat these old, hard, boiled potatoes,
I'm Hungry!!!

I prayed the Maghrib & even the Sunnah, no sign of my brother,... I shouldn't have depended on him, I know that he sometimes wonders off & loses track of time, in his own pleasing...
NOW...WHAT SHALL  I EAT??? I'm HUNGRY!!!
I went to the kitchen & opened the fridge & took out the potatoes
Wait a second!!!!
I remembered the pictures of the bombings is

AFGHANISTAN!!!...

?What do they have to eat?

?Where r they staying?

?How happy they'll be if I offered these old hard potatoes for them??...

Questions & pictures pounded my brain!!

I took another lk around me,

& noticed a drastic change to the kitchen,

- I saw it with the eye that has seen the bombings -

It was well furnished, with loads of spices, fresh tomatoes, two potatoes, onion, fresh water, oil,......

A huge list!

Why did I ever send my brother to buy me food, I have enough food for many Afghans...?!?

My housekeeper entered the kitchen,

" Do you need anything?... I'll do this & that ... do u need coffee or tea... do??????"

The kitchen suddenly seemed overcrowded with things, I'd love to give away...

I took the potatoes, a tomato, oil, bread, celery...and sat on the floor & started to eat,...

Bismillah...mmmmmmmmm...this is one of the tastiest meals I have ever had...I had eaten in five star buffets & exquisite dinnings...yet this was yummy!!

As I scraped the plate with bread, I remebered the supplication:

"Al hamdu lelLah alathy at'aamany hatha wa razaqneehi men ghayri hawlen miny wala qowa"

All praise is to Allah, who had fed & provided for me this; without any might or strength of my own

...

and

<<A sting>>

went through my heart,,,

I remembered what was happening in Afghan...

I remebered the kids & the old,

the women & the warriors,...

Is it…

...the ungratefulness of mankind towards their Lord; fighting His rulings & religion,

Or is it…

The cruelty of the acts taken against my sisters & brothers, my kids & my grandfathers ...

Or is it…

The fact that I'm watching this all, like one watches a movie; affected, yet "on the other side of the screen "

Is it because I'm watching with my hand in the popcorn cone!!!?

Is It ONE of thse factors , or ALL of them that caused the STING...?

??>!^?>

My brother is very late...

How many young brothers were never found...

how many never returned?

 l looked around my kitchen,

I found many, many things...

yet one thing I was looking for I didn't see a trace of...

I looked around & witnessed the double standards that enveloped our lives...

I looked and searched...

But the sting only deepened...

No, it's not a real meal I was looking for...

It is the

'*" real"*'

true signs...

Signs of

Sincerity!

AlHumdullillah- this happened to me recently.

There was a week or two when the food in our house seemed sparse-

Allah swt put it all in perspective as the nightly news reminded me how much I really have.

May Allah swt forgive me.

hey, that brother sounds a lot like me :)  last night i called my sis and told her to be ready to go grocery shopping, so i got home 2 hours later and she was still sitting there dressed and ready to go.  i told her i was too tired to go so she said 'grrr' and took off her hijab and stuff, and then a few minutes later i was like, "ok, maybe we should go."  she was gonna kill me :)

well i guess the moral of the story is never trust your brother, otherwise you'll end up staying at home in the kitchen wearing your hijab and eating potatoes :)

salam :)
