Trying to find out what the general feeling or sentiments are for Israel.  I realize this is a huge open ended question. Is the feeling towards Zionism the same among Muslims in general or is that limited mostly to Arabs?

[/quote] If you look historically there is no anti-Jewish (or anti-any faith) sentiment in Islam.  In truth we are from the same father, Abraham, peace be upon him, and we believe in the same line of prophethood, the same basic teachings.  No true Muslim harbors hate in their heart for someone who believes in God and seeks to please Him in the way they see fit.  And we are taught not to hate people, but to hate the wrong they do - hatred of the *act*, not the individual. I think the hatred stems from Israel, and it's policies towards the Palestinian people.  It is not a "conflict" as the media here puts it, implying that it's two groups duking it out over the same land; but it is an occupation by brute force, perpetrated by an oppressive regime, that is continuing even today. I ask you to please, visit *any* international human rights organization and see what Israeli occupation has done to the Palestinian people, read about the legitimized apartheid that the Palestinians endure, the continuous disregard for their value as a people and their dignity as human beings, the gross violation of basic human rights and international law. Where mercy and compassion are needed in dawah, it is rightful to treat the kafr in such a way.  Where love and loyalty are needed, is in the treatment of Muslims by Muslims. Were that were true!  If the Jews really believed in Allah SWT they would certainly have accepted the Prophet Muhammed, SAWS, but most do not, and this constitutes unbelief in Allah SWT.  There are several ahadith that speak to the hate that exists between 'true' Muslims and Jews as well as things and people that are to be hated in general. Let me list some of them: Volume 5, Book 58, Number 127:       Narrated Al-Bara:       I heard the Prophet saying (or the Prophet said), "None loves the Ansar but a believer, and none hates them but a hypocrite. So Allah will love him who loves them, and He will hate him who hates them." Volume 7, Book 62, Number 157:       Narrated Al-Miswar bin Makhrama:       I heard Allah's Apostle who was on the pulpit, saying, "Banu Hisham bin Al-Mughira have requested me to allow them to marry their daughter to Ali bin Abu Talib, but I don't give permission, and will not give permission unless 'Ali bin Abi Talib divorces my daughter in order to marry their daughter, because Fatima is a part of my body, and I hate what she hates to see, and what hurts her, hurts me." Book 008, Number 3469:       Ab Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: A believing man should not hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another. Book 020, Number 4573:       It has been narrated on the authority of 'Auf b. Malik that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: The best of your rulers are those whom you love and who love you, who invoke God's blessings upon you and you invoke His blessings upon them. And the worst of your rulers are those whom you hate and who hate you and whom you curse and who curse you. It was asked (by those present): Shouldn't we overthrow them with the help of the sword? He said: No, as long as they establish prayer among you. If you then find anything detestable in them. You should hate their administration, but do not withdraw yourselves from their obedience And last but not the least : Book 40, Number 4582:       Narrated AbuDharr:       The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: The best of the actions is to love for the sake of Allah and to hate for the sake of Allah. Volume 3, Book 43, Number 637:       Narrated 'Aisha:       The Prophet said, "The most hated person in the sight of Allah is the most quarrelsome person." Volume 9, Book 83, Number 21:       Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:       The Prophet said, "The most hated persons to Allah are three: (1) A person who deviates from the right conduct, i.e., an evil doer, in the Haram (sanctuaries of Mecca and Medina); (2) a person who seeks that the traditions of the Pre-lslamic Period of Ignorance, should remain in Islam (3) and a person who seek to shed somebody's blood without any right." Book 41, Number 5119:       Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar:       A woman was my wife and I loved her, but Umar hated her. He said to me: Divorce her, but I refused. Umar then went to the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) and mentioned that to him. The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: Divorce her. Book 33, Number 33.1.2:       Malik related to me from Ibn Shihab from Sulayman ibn Yasar that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to send       Abdullah ibn Rawaha to Khaybar, to assess the division of the fruit crop between him and the jews of Khaybar.       The jews collected for Abdullah pieces of their women's jewellery and said to him, "This is yours. Go light on us and don't be exact in the division!"       Abdullah ibn Rawaha said, "O tribe of jews! By Allah! You are among the most hateful to me of Allah's creation, but it does not prompt me to deal unjustly with you. What you have offered as a bribe is forbidden. We will not touch it." They said, "This is what supports the heavens and the earth." The most authentic source or tradition for the animosity that exists between Jews and Muslims comes from the hadith that states that no two deens shall coexist in the Arabian Peninsula.  And so to take any other rules or laws or principles for the removal of other deens except al-Islam from the Arab Peninsula, must be provided with another authentic source.  Umar ibn Khattab found the removal of the Jews from Arabia to be fard. Book 019, Number 4366:       It has been narrated by 'Umar b. al-Khattib that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) say: I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim. There is an authentic tradition in the Muslim faith that establishes the removal of any religion other than al-Islam from the whole of the Arabian Peninsula.  Also, hate should not exist between Mu'min, believers, or Muslims, those who submit, however there is nothing that states there should exist no hate for those people and things which Allah SWT also hates. The best place to search for knowledge about what should be Muslim stances on issues such as these, are those Ulema who are not afraid to speak the truth or in confidance, the ahadith and sunnah, and the Quran. I personally try to make the way easy for everyone, since I live in a kafr country,  I still deal justly with people, all people.  However when it comes to those things which were clearly decided upon, like Arabia and the homeland of the most loved places of Allah SWT, the masjids there, I only believe in that which I know the Companions, RA, have  conveyed to us of the Prophets, SAWS, wishes and Allah SWT commands. I am a Native American Muslim, and I feel as any other Muslims who believes the truthfulness of the above ahadith and acts or intends by them or seeks out their meanings. Regards, QAK

slm I am a Muslim and like many other of my brethrin, not a discendent of abraham pbh. Judaism is a racist faith, Islam is not. So jews are jews because they claim to belong to a race they call Jew. A tiny fraction of the muslim population are arabs. Arabs and jews may be racially identical, but that is meaningless to the believer as a Arab muslim loves his muslim brothers in korea and vietnam while hating the zionist scum who polout the holy land. There are many jews who convert to Islam and they hate them too. All Muslims are one brotherhood and so are the disbelievers. Thats why the Jews of Israel helped the Serbs in Bosnia Kill and rape our brethrin and why the Israelis help the Hindus do the same as well as any other nation the desires Muslim blood. Any one who is not a Jew who knows about their racist religion hates it. I mean, their tolmoud tells them it is lawful for them to steal from all non Jews and that raping girls under the age of 9 is not a sin. this is why they were persecuted all over the world. But Muslims were always their protectors, cause we are not effected by haterid. If we hate them, we hate them, but how we treat them is determined by god, and he tells us to protect all people who don't fight us including them. So they ran from europe in to the Islamic state and the muslims housed and and feed them from our own food. Some of them got high ranking Jobs in the army and civil service and used their positions to distroy the Khilafah. Once the khilafah was distroyed the Jews who were given shelter in palistine raped and murdered the very same Muslims who housed them and feed them, so the jews can have the houses the Muslims decided to share with them on their own. So thats why Muslims hate them. But once we take back what was taken from us. and distroy Isreal and liberate all of it. We will once again become the protectors of the jews.

Salam :) I don't know who asked this question, but it seems kinda strange to me.  I mean, would you walk into a Holocaust museum and say, "Hey you guys, what do you think of Nazis?"  I mean, this is a baited question, weather the questioner meant it or not.   Just a few comments: 1.)  Anyone who is familiar enough with Middle Eastern politics to know what zionism means, should also know that it was identified as a racist doctrine by the UN decades ago.  Only under enormous pressure from the US was that resolution repealed.   2.)  My feeling is that we as Muslims shouldn't waste our time arguing with zionists or arguing with each other about zionism.  It is one of the mechanisms they employ to divide us and waste our time.  What we need to do is push for justice via the critical mechanisms by which this society is controlled.  Media is really important.   I urge you to start a college radio broadcast, by which you can provide an outlet for the dissemination of fair news coverage.  We've done this in our community, and it has had a snowball effect, with reporters(both TV and newspaper) calling wanting to know more about our perspective.  It also provides a forum for intellectuals in the community to come out and speak.  This is something almost any of us can do, and to start go to your college radio website, join the mailing list, and attend their next meeting.  We got a show in less than a few weeks.  Message me if you'd like more info on how to do this, I'll be glad to help. 3.)  The danger of radicalization.  A shaykh in my community who was part of the Islamic movement in Algeria mentioned this as the most dangerous element in the Ummah today.  They are going to try to radicalize us, which essentially means fill us with so much hate that we will become emotionally driven and useless.  This is like a chessgame, we've got to think strategically. Be careful brothers and sisters, there's people out there who are laying traps for Muslims, trying to get us to say what they want and then using our own words against us.   salam :)

The answer to your loaded question, which I assume was not necessarily posed with mal-intent, is not contained within this post.  Just another excuse to plug the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs (twice within one thread!). But as an aside, most divine revelations came about as a revolution, to address issues such as social injustices, like racism.  Racism is a huge no-no in Islam.  Sulaiman Nyang aptly calls it "Iblis-ism" ("Iblis" is a name of Satan, who Muslims consider to be the first racist, outrightly refusing to give respect to Adam and his progeny, and instead vowing to be his/their enemy).   It's a shame that more Muslims are not on the forefront of social policy concerns, such as racism, sexism, environment and animal abuse, etc.  There are tons of grass-roots organizations out there that address issues such as this, yet I wonder how many of us actually participate, esp in regards to issues that don't concern Muslims, exclusively?  I ask myself that question first.   (Free Mumia Abu Jamal! Unlike porngraphy, which often is in the eye of the beholder, racism in nations is self-evident. It comes in the form of a constitution, the laws that a nation adopts and the behavior of its citizens toward minorites. Yet the United States failed to recognize racism when the American delegation walked out of the recent U.N. World Conference Against Racism in sympathy with Israel. Significantly, it was the only country in the world to do so. What is it that the rest of the world sees when it looks at Israel that Washington doesn’t? Other nations note that Israel has no constitution. But it has a body of what are called “Basic Laws” that serve the purpose of a constitution. Among these laws are a number of statutes that enshrine exclusive rights for Jews above all other religions and peoples living in the state. One such law is the Right of Return, granting any Jew—but no one else—automatic Israeli citizenship. It was passed in 1950 by the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, in which there are few non-Jews beyond token members of minor minorities. In the words of Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion: “This is not only a Jewish state, where the majority of the inhabitants are Jews, but a state for all Jews, wherever they are, and for every Jew who wants to be here....This right is inherent in being a Jew.”1 Another of the Basic Laws is one defining Israel citizenship, passed by the Knesset in 1952. It is the Law of Citizenship, sometimes called the Nationality Law. It set citizenship rules so stringently against non-Jews that many Palestinian residents of Israel (stuck there when Israel captured their land in 1948) were denied citizenship even though their families had lived in Palestine for many generations. In fact, the law was so restrictive against granting citizenship to goyim—a Hebrew term to define all non-Jews—that it caused concern among some Jewish communities outside of Israel. Irving M. Engel, president of the American Jewish Committee, later met with Ben-Gurion and urged him to have the law changed. Engel said he was embarrassed by the restrictive nature of the law, since his organization had crusaded throughout the world for equal treatment of Jews. Now, he added, when Jews got their own their country they were discriminating against non-Jews. Ben-Gurion rejected any changes to the Nationality Law.2 In the same year, 1952, the Knesset passed the World Zionist Organization-Jewish Agency (Status) Law, which legalized special economic, political and social benefits for Israeli Jews. It gave exclusive rights not to all citizens of Israel but to Israelis of “Jewish nationality,” including the right to purchase land. Jewish institutions such as the Jewish National Fund were prohibited by law to sell the land they owned in Israel—some 97 percent—to non-Jews and were enjoined to hold all land “for the whole Jewish people.” Israel is a democracy for Jews only. Racism has many other manifestations in Israel beyond official statutes. Most notable of these prejudicial practices is the ban against Palestinians serving in the Israel Defense Forces. Even though Palestinians make up nearly 20 percent of Israel’s population—a larger minority than blacks in America—they are left in the paradoxical position of being denied the basic duty of protecting what is supposedly their country. Palestinians never gain entry to the higher levels of the Israeli government. There has never been a Palestinian cabinet minister, much less a prime minister or a minister of foreign affairs. Their cities and towns receive nowhere near the financial aid from the central government that their Jewish counterparts receive, nor do their educational and health systems. Needless to say, the quality of life of the average Palestinian citizen of Israel is far lower than that of Jewish “nationals.” By any definition of racism, Israel qualifies. Its laws and practices define it as exclusionary and for Jews only. While Israel most certainly is a democracy, it is a democracy for Jews only. Goyim are not welcome or accepted as equals. Palestinians are at best second-class citizens, casualties of a bloody history that left them stranded inside what became Israel. In fact, all non-Jews, whether Palestinians or American Christians, are discouraged from living in Israel. Marriage between a Jew and a non-Jew cannot be performed there. Nor is religious tolerance exactly a hallmark of Israel’s democracy. From time to time Israel’s Knesset has passed laws against proselytizing by Christians, decreeing prison terms for both the converted and the conveter. Given this reality, it was hypocritical in the extreme for the U.S. to thumb its nose at the World Conference Against Racism. Surely this country, as one of the world’s few true democracies, has a duty to stand up against racism wherever it sees it. Instead it brusquely quit the conference in September as a show of solidarity with Israel’s walkout. Israeli Apartheid Secretary of State Colin Powell specifically cited as one of the reasons for the U.S. action the charge by some non-Jewish delegates that “apartheid exists in Israel.”3 How could they say otherwise? Anyone who has ever visited Israel knows that apartheid is alive and well in the Jewish state. What else is the cruel Israeli military occupation and isolation of three million Palestinians—complete with travel permits, checkpoints, “whites-only” neighborhoods and other former trademarks of South Africa? Powell also complained that delegates regarded “Zionism as racism.”4 But, by its own definition, Zionism is racist. How could it be otherwise? Zionism is specifically for Jews, excluding all others, so by its very nature it is racist. What else could it mean when Jews proudly proclaim Israel is a Jewish state? They mean goyim are not wanted. What could Secretary of State Powell have been thinking when he uttered these absurd justifications for leaving the conference? Surely it wasn’t reality. His charge that Israel was being unfairly discriminated against lost any trace of credibility when not one of the other 163 nations in the world followed Washington’s lead, not even such traditional allies as Britain or France. In fact, after the United States and Israel quit the conference the remaining delegates—i.e., the rest of the world—went on formally to express their concern about the “plight of the Palestinians under foreign occupation.” Israel and the United States were left standing alone, in shame. In the end Powell and his boss, President George W. Bush, sacrificed an important international conference to pander to Zionists and their powerful American political lobby. In the process they besmirched their own reputations and that of their nation. The enmity of the kuffaar – the People of the Book (Jews and Christians), mushrikeen (polytheists) and hypocrites – towards the believers will last until the Hour begins. The conflict between truth and falsehood will continue until Allaah inherits the earth and whomsoever is upon it. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):   “And they will never cease fighting you until they turn you back from your religion (Islamic Monotheism) if they can. And whosoever of you turns back from his religion and dies as a disbeliever, then his deeds will be lost in this life and in the Hereafter, and they will be the dwellers of the Fire. They will abide therein forever”[al-Baqarah 2:217]   Because Islam rules the believers with justice, and gives each person his rights, and they do not want this to happen – for this reason they strive to wage war against this religion and to refute the truth with falsehood. But they can never achieve that, for this religion will abide, and Allaah will perfect His light, even though the kaafiroon hate that. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):   “They intend to put out the Light of Allaah (i.e. the religion of Islam, this Qur’aan, and Prophet Muhammad) with their mouths. But Allaah will bring His Light to perfection even though the disbelievers hate (it). He it is Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islamic Monotheism) to make it victorious over all (other) religions even though the Mushrikoon (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah and in His Messenger Muhammad) hate (it)”[al-Saff :8-9]   The kuffaar want all the nations of this earth to follow kufr as one:   “They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected (Faith), and thus that you all become equal (like one another) [al-Nisaa’ 4:89 – interpretation of the meaning]   Those who disbelieve spend of their wealth in order to prevent others from following the path of Allaah, at all times and in all places, and (they strive to) spread corruption, provoke wars and kill the believers. But Allaah insists that they should fail and that His religion should be victorious. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):   “Verily, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to hinder (men) from the path of Allaah, and so will they continue to spend it; but in the end it will become an anguish for them. Then they will be overcome. And those who disbelieve will be gathered unto Hell” [al-Anfaal 8:36]   Allaah has told us how strong the enmity of the kuffaar is towards the Muslims:   “Neither those who disbelieve among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) nor Al-Mushrikoon (the idolaters, polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allaah, pagans) like that there should be sent down unto you any good from your Lord. But Allaah chooses for His Mercy whom He wills. And Allaah is the Owner of Great Bounty” [al-Baqarah 2:105 – interpretation of the meaning]   No matter whap the kuffaar do, their enmity will not end. Even though they may speak words of friendship, their hearts are filled with hatred towards Islam and its people:   “How (can there be such a covenant with them) that when you are overpowered by them, they regard not the ties, either of kinship or of covenant with you? With (good words from) their mouths they please you, but their hearts are averse to you, and most of them are Faasiqoon (rebellious, disobedient to Allaah)” [al-Tawbah 9:8 – interpretation of the meaning]   The hypocrites are kuffaar among the Muslims, whose hatred appears in their words and whose hearts are filled with enmity. But Allaah is watching them, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):   “If a good befalls you, it grieves them, but if some evil overtakes you, they rejoice at it. But if you remain patient and become Al-Muttaqoon (the pious), not the least harm will their cunning do to you. Surely, Allaah surrounds all that they do”[Aal ‘Imraan 3:120]   The People of the Book disbelieve in the verses of Allaah, and mix truth with falsehood. They conceal the truth and plot against Islam, in order to divert the Muslims from their religion, as Allaah tells us about them (interpretation of the meaning):   “O people of the Scripture! (Jews and Christians): Why do you disbelieve in the Ayaat of Allaah, [the Verses about Prophet Muhammad present in the Tawraat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] while you (yourselves) bear witness (to their truth)? O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Why do you mix truth with falsehood and conceal the truth while you know? And a party of the people of the Scripture say: ‘Believe in the morning in that which is revealed to the believers (Muslims), and reject it at the end of the day, so that they may turn back’” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:70-72]   Allaah has clearly stated that obeying the kuffaar in any way is the cause of destruction and loss, and that obeying Him is the way to glory, victory and strength, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):   “O you who believe! If you obey those who disbelieve, they will send you back on your heels, and you will turn back (from Faith) as losers. Nay, Allaah is your Mawlaa (Patron, Lord, Helper, Protector), and He is the Best of helpers” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:149]   All of the kuffaar, be they the People of the Book (Jews and Christians), mushrikeen (polytheists) or hypocrites, are the enemies of the Muslims, so it is not permissible to depend upon them or to rely on them. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):   “And incline not toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you, and you have no protectors other than Allaah, nor you would then be helped”[Hood 11:113]   Allaah has warned us against taking the kuffaar as friends instead of the believers. If the Muslims fear their evil, it is permitted to make an outward show of friendliness towards them, even though he should hate them inwardly, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Let not the believers take the disbelievers as Awliyaa’ (supporters, helpers) instead of the believers, and whoever does that, will never be helped by Allaah in any way, except if you indeed fear a danger from them. And Allaah warns you against Himself (His punishment), and to Allaah is the final return” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:28]   Allaah has warned us against taking the Jews and Christians as friends, and He told us that whoever takes them as friends is one of them. He says (interpretation of the meaning):   “O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Awliyaa’ (friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Awliyaa’ of each other. And if any amongst you takes them (as Awliyaa’), then surely, he is one of them. Verily, Allaah guides not those people who are the Zaalimoon (polytheists and wrongdoers and unjust)” [al-Maa'idah 5:51]   All of the kuffaar, be they the People of the Book (Jews and Christians), mushrikeen (polytheists) or hypocrites, will be in Hell on the Day of Resurrection, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):   “Verily, those who disbelieve (in the religion of Islam, the Qur’aan and Prophet Muhammad) from among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) and Al‑Mushrikoon will abide in the fire of Hell. Assalaamu-alaikum My feelings towards the israeli jews are pretty strong, but this is limited to the israeli jews and those that support them, namely, those in the USA. I have a deep hate towards zionist jews, i have seen with my own eyes horrific brutality by the israeli soldeirs towards palestinian children and women. I have seen footage of israeli troops stamping to death a small kid, i have seen israeli troops ganging up on, and beating up lone muslim women, i have seem video footage of israeli settlers pinning down palestinian youths, then smashing thier heads open with rocks. this footage would never be shown on tv, but its available from a number of muslim organisations. When you see such footage of brutality and murder against a defencless palestinian nation, you cannot, but hate the israeli jews. I am sure most jews themselves would hate israel if they could see with thier own eyes what is being done to palestinians by thier jewish brothers. The jewish controlled media in the west will go out their way to make sure the reality of the illegal occupation is not known to the general public in the west, because they know that if the truth comes out to the masses, Israel will become the symbol of hate. SO instead we are constantly fed the events of the holocaust over and over as a means of trying to make it out the the jews were the ones who were wronged in history. Yes, they suffered greatly in the 30's and 40's, but they have gone on to become a murderous and brutual nation, who are now hated in the islaamic world for what they have done to the palestinans.
