hadeeth [explanation needed]

I read this on a wewbsite

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “We (Muslims) are the last
(of the nations) but (we will be) the foremost on the Day of
Resurrection,  although the former nations were given their scriptures before us
and we were given our after them. And this (Friday) is the day
concerning which they disputed. So Allaah guided us (to it), tomorrow (i.e.,
Saturday) is for the Jews and the day after (i.e., Sunday) is for the
Christians.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, al-Jumu’ah, 847).

This is confusing to me. can someone plss explain the meaning of this
hadeeth. I thought that those scriptures( like torah, injeel) were given
to the muslims which were later corrupted by people.

As Salamu Alayka,

What I can tell you about that hadith is that just like it says, of those who were given scriptures and sabbath days, or holy days, the Muslims were given their book, and holy day last out of the Christians, and Jews, however, of those who believed in Allah SWT and the messengers, the order of the holy days is when they will be admitted into Jannah.  The Muslims' holy day is Friday, so they will be admitted first, the Jews have Saturday, so they will be second, and the Christians have SUnday, so they will be last.

I cannot tell you where I got them from, possibly the hadith explanation by M. Khan in the Sahih Bukhari abridged version.

as salaamu alaykum,

Hmm.  Of course we believe that all the prophets were Muslim - Muslim in the sense that they brought the same message of tawheed of Allah.  The vertical relationship - that between Creator and creation - has remained the same in the line of prophets since the time of Adam, may peace be upon them all.

The horizontal relationship though - the sharia - the laws of interaction between people and in a society, have differed with different time, people, and societies.

So yes, we believe that previous scriptures, like the torah and the injeel were given to Muslims, and that later on its teachings were changed by people so much so that they no longer reflect the original teachings.

As for the hadeeth itself, I honestly don't know what the last sentence means.  I'll try to find out inshaAllah.

Here is another translation of the hadeeth that is a bit clearer:

Volume 2, Book 13, Number 1:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

I heard Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) saying, "We (Muslims) are the last (to come) but (will be) the foremost on the Day of Resurrection though the former nations were given the Holy Scriptures before us. And this was their day (Friday) the celebration of which was made compulsory for them but they differed about it. So Allah gave us the guidance for it (Friday) and all the other people are behind us in this respect: the Jews' (holy day is) tomorrow (i.e. Saturday) and the Christians' (is) the day after tomorrow (i.e. Sunday)."
