| Assalamualaikum ahhHhh, so I have a big, big, big proble, well perhaps not so big if someone can shed some light on it for me inshaAllah. so there i was, sitting in my room, checking out some jannah.org posts, when internet explorer crashed on me!! uff, so i re-opened it on up, and began to read some more posts, when lo and behold, it crashed again!! this continued for a couple of weeks, i decided to have sabr, hoping the problem would go away on its own :*( (naive of me i know..).. anyways, as the irksome problem came back again and again, my sabr failed me, and i decided to install internet explorer 6.0. on my way to nointernetexplorer crashing bliss, i restarted my computer anticipating the irksome problem tohave been solved as i had installed internet explorer 6.0. unfortunately i didnt reach that blissful stage :**( (i'm about to start crying *sigh*). it turned out that MY DESKTOP, and my ICONS, and my TOOLBAR all vanished... AHHH, the only thing that appears not is my desktop wallpaper. what on earth am i to do. Under normal circumstances, i wouldve just gone and removed internet explorer 6.0 but i CANT DO THAT NOW, as i have NO TOOLBAR!! uff.. so my question is.. WHAT DO I DO, how do i correct this problem :**(. I miss my computer, even with its prior problems!! ....a side note..im a windows 98 user..and apparently windows 98 does not mesh well with internet explorer 6.0? sniff sniff..i wish i had knonw that ahead of time, khair. so enlighten me please, what steps should itake to fix this problem. i miss my desktop, my icons, my start bar, my toolbar, everything!! i dont like staring at only my desktop wallpaper. its boring! also..ive attempted to start in safemode, but that doesnt help either!! ahhHhhH, ok, so if someone could respond asap it would be greatly appreciated. i need to get my computer back up before classes start!!!! ie asap!! can we tell that Somaira is a bit stressed here??? ps..if you could also copy adn paste your responses to SomairaAltaf@yahoo.com it would be appreciated as well. hope everyone is doing well. take care. ws wrt wbk Somaira |

| [slm] Somaira, do you get any kind of error message when you restart your comp? I've had really weird things happen to my comp in the past but nothing like this. But I'd usually get some kind of message when restarting and I had to eventually reformat my entire HD :( Maybe you should have someone come look at your comp, (someone you know--so you don't have to pay ;) ). |

| assalaamu alaikum Try re-installing Win98 again. *Is that tautology? hmmm* It'll rewrite any corrupted files, and will leave your already installed stuff like MS Office intact - although you may have to create the icons on your desktop again. Kashif Wa Salaam |

| Aww, Try and run explorer from the command prompt Heres how: If you press the windows key which is between Ctrl and Alt then click on the command run type in explorer If that works, go to the folder called desktop Add your icons and shortcuts within that folder, also make sure that you are not viewing yuor page as HTML but just as a standard desktop. By the way I'd install Win2000 Professional, now thats a system and a half better than that penguin OS. Salaams Hanif |

| Assalamualaikum wrt wbk Everyone!!! an *update*: ALHUMDULILLAH my computer is back up and running. LoL, you dont know how difficult it was for me, not having *my* computer to work on...(even though I had my bro and sisters to work on). and cough cough, no im not addicted.... I did have to reformat, and reinstall Windows, after sitting in front of my computer for FIVE, yes FIVE hours, my brother and I were able to save all my files (yeahhhh :) ) and then revive my computer. (thaaliyaaaaaan) Needless to say im one khush (happy) girl now ;)! Jazaks to all that replied and emailed me. Take care. ws wrt wbk Somaira |

| Bismillah Salam alaykum sister, Before you load your system with all you data and programs etcc.. get someone to create some partitions on your hard drive. Make it a habit to do some backup of your stuff on the 2d partition, and also copy your windows cabs in that partition. In the event that something happen to your C partition you can always try to fix it or worst case reformat. But at least you have your data somewhere else. Also on that same note if you have a Cd burner, every 2-3 weeks collect your data and burn them on a special CD, else get a small extra(used if you want)hard drive and have a friend install it for you and copy your data into it. They can even install another windows for you on that hard drive and use a program like PQ Magic to have a multiple boot. Hope it will help. |
