| Bro Rashid really got me to thinking the other day, and I have decided to expand a little on the topic of education which I concluded with in my last post. The internet has truely become the primevil seminole forest--it's rich in fodor for thought. One concept put forward on Lycos is that Jerusalem be made an international sanctuary of worship, open to all, owned by none. It would be a type of international public park accessible to all faiths without discrimination as to color, race or creed. This idea reflects a type of critical thinking process which is and can be initiated in childhood education~primary school~and developed throughout adult life and IS a process known loosely as creative, open ended problem solving skills and is usable for process resolution. What this means is that problem solving skills are the result of an identifiable process of dialouge and consideration which can be taught to others through an identifiable method~activities and exercises~initiated in primary school education and continued through the grades as student's progress in skill, maturity, and complexity. This vital skill becomes termed "critical thinking" as we reach adulthood. But without the foundation laid in the primary grades some individuals experience difficulty in moving on to more complex problem solving tasks,and stall at the point where the critical analysis stops and gut feelings take over. Thats all of us and not reflective upon our worth. As said in the Desertarada~there will always be someone who has more than you and there will always be someone who has less and this by no means decreases your value. You are a child of the Universe, and no less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here. However, there could be potentially individuals at large who picked up on critical thinking at a later stage in life than the average American who never-the-less might have risen higher had they had the full benifit of the foundation typically laid in primary school, which may have been superceeded by religious teaching. To boil it down to an essence the outcome is that we may have, right here in America, individuals working as technitions and labour who could have been corporate megaliths. Of course there are always some few who always manage to outshine their peers~but I am discussing the average. In the modern world it is not a viable economic solution for any nation to barter services for goods that can later be shipped home. Obviously, one must learn to "think like the enemy" in order to be on equal footing in any competition with him, even if that competition is confined to the world marketplace. And the one most vital skill-cost effective critical analysis-is a part of the result of the foundation of experience laid in primary school education. Ultimately, meant to lead to mastery of a chosen topic in adulthood. This is truely an exaltation of the role of women in thier most valuable positions within society as primary school teachers. After all, after you learn to read, you learn to think, and if you can apply what you've read you can improove your station in life and when you can think as well as Bill Gates Then you are thinking on your feet! So. Storytime. So my dad was this world famous dictator guy living down in South Africa many years ago While at the same time the Shah was relaxing in his palace in his polyester leisure suit, the garb of noblemen and kings. There were so many viscious lies being circulate about my pop I hardly know where to begin, but pop does NOT eat human babies. That is simply preposterous! BUT I DID see him shoot a kid in the head once and heres how it happened. A newly constructed school system had recently been plopped down in the Nigerian bush--to wit; we had fled the monstrous savegry of the Shah after having recieved a rather ugly letter stating flatly that my horoscope nicely matched that of the Shahs son who had yet to be born but was due any minute. Why, you know, would pop, this polished, experienced, politician politicking with ease all over the eastern hemisphere, why single this one family out for mistrust? Don't ask me--I already know the answer. So there we were-myself and a bunch of kids ages four to fifteen, some twelve of us kids lined up against a dormitory wall with nothing but our ABC's in our heads--each ready to recite our lesson for the day. "I am so-and-so and I know my ABC's and 123's and I can read and write so I can ride a bike and if it be that I can not then I will surely rot." So. We had to say our names, recite the alphabet, count to ten, or some such, and recite this stupid ditty and each kid more or less did fine~I was fifth in line~and the poor kid just in front of me, well, he went blank with the capedontowering before him in his blazing white shirt under the hot Afrikaan sun. He just paled and went blank. The gun just went off by dad's foot and the ricochette splashed the kids head onto the wall. Left the lasting impression that in the world in which we live today, a kid without primary school education is as good as dead. How can a kid without the nessesary information contribute to a society with a gross national product? Today, Nigeria is one of the few moslim countries competitive in the world marketplace. No longer third world, they are a first world nation. But this is not about "I had trouble in getting to Solla Sollew...where they never have troubles...at least, very few."! Tribal conflict continues to plague Nigeria. They are their own nation, they solve their own problem their own way. Nations, like individuals, are not identical, but they do generate internal revenue to keep their own economy afloat. Everybody gets a chance to sink or swim, just like they do here. and some general principals do apply accross boundries both national and ecletic (color, race, and creed). IF I had to come up with a gift I could give the world, a gift WORTHY of a king, it would be this~creative problem solving conflict resolution skills for each and every child; Primary school education; so that no child will be left behind as our world moves into the new millenium. Mandatory primary school grades 1-8, to provide a lasting foundation for the New Jerusalem~an enlightened public in it's entirety, in every nation on earth! Utopian? I think not!
