| slm, ay peeps! long time no speak.. i actually came back from india more than a week ago, but with school and all i havent had a chance to get on here. oh man.. theres so many newbies i havent greeted :( but i guess princess took over for me while i was gone :) so to all you newbies, welcome aboard and enjoy your stay inshallah :) (- the welcoming wagon ;-D ) anyways, i've got so many threads to catch up on.. i gotta get to em right away :) was salaamu alaikum :) |

| slm, DOH! sorry for the late reply peeps... ok stories... namuch happend while i was there... i was pretyt much in bangalore most of the time visiting relatives... i also went to mysore for a couple of days.. before i left i went to new delhi and agra.. saw the taj mahal and a few other sites.. didnt run into any fighting or conflicts alhamdulillah... we even went up to the parliament house in new delhi. i guess one thing that kinda made me somewhat bitter during our stay was how blatant the discrimination is there.. its like people can just smell it if you are a foreigner... all the historical monuments there have admission charges and the charges for foreigners are several times higher than those for indian citizens (ex: 200 rupees vs. 20 rupees)... and people porposely give you a hard time if they know that you are a foreigner... for example when we went to the taj mahal, the security guard at the gate stopped me specifically and searched every single thing in my bag and on myself while dozens of peopel simply walked by without any trouble... but other than that it was pretty memorable. our return was delayed.. it should have taken less than 24 hours to come back but it took us more than 4 days because of flight delays and cancellations all over the place. but alhamdulillah we got back safely. here's a few pics i took while i was there: http://meraj.virtualave.net/india/tajmahal.jpg always a fantastic sight... it was very crowded though.. there must have been several thousand people at the time.. but alhamdulillah at leats i can say that i've seen it :) http://meraj.virtualave.net/india/monkey.jpg an genuine indian langur ;-D i took this pic at agra fort in agra. http://meraj.virtualave.net/india/traffic.jpg *literally* bumper to bumper traffic in new delhi. http://meraj.virtualave.net/india/traffic1.jpg a common sight in india... this is a bullock cart in the middle of rush hour traffic in bangalore. http://meraj.virtualave.net/india/grafitti.jpg some interesting grafitti near my grandparent's house in bangalore.. the sad thing is this is right next to the masjid. and thanx for the warm welcome everyone ;-D |
