Wedding Reading

Hi everyone,

My brother is getting married soon and has asked all the siblings to do a reading.  He knows of my interest in Islam and has asked me to chose something from the Qur'an or a related text.  So, first of all, I have to ask if this is ok to do in a church, and also, for some suggestions. I've read the Qur'an but am certainly not well-versed, so any and all thoughs are appreciated.

Thanks!

How long does this reading have to be?

Hi Sparrow
I was also wondering how long this reading has to be.

A couple of ayat (verses) from the Quran that you could read are:
30:21
And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquillity with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect.

Spouses are referred to as garments/apparells for each other.
They are your garments and ye are their garments 2:185

Abdullah Adhami has said some very beautiful things about a good wife. You can read it here, the first two paragraphs. Of course at a wedding ceremony I would guess that both your brother and his wife would be present, and it wouldn't be appropriate to just address him, but I think these words would go very nicely on a card for him. Just a thought :)

take care and please do let us know how it goes :)

Hi to all!

Thanks for the responses! I would guess that my rading shouldn't go more than a minute at the most, as there are several of us doing readings and I don't want the attendees to start snoring :)

ABC, that ayats you posted are beautiful although I think a bit too short.  I am going to have a peek at them and read what comes before and after as well.

Thanks again.

slm,

Sparrow, take a look at verses 115-135 in Surah Taha (#20). I believe they tell in a nutshell the islamic perspective on the fall of adam and eve,the relationship between man and His Lord and the nature of salvation.
