Yeah me too! Alhamdulillah, I have graduated (almost) and am looking for a job. The job market is reaaallly bad. Sending out resumes *just doesn't work*, especially for jobs in the industry (faculty jobs are not that affected). Networking is the only hope. So if there are any Muslims who can help, I would appreciate it a lot. Check my website for my resume! I have multiple skills, but my primary interests are in applied artificial intelligence and intelligent informatics.

Jazakallahu khayran.

Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear about your job Brother Arshad. InshAllah another will come soon, don't worry.

Bro. Asim why don't you apply for graduate recruitment jobs?

http://doctorjob.com/jobs/

You stand a better chance of getting a job that way especially if you have no previous commercial work experience. Or if the economy is particuarly bad where you are why not try for an Internship? Some organisations offer work in the industry you studied your degree in. If you are anywhere near Chicago this might be worth a try:

http://www.chicagoislam.org/jobs.html

Bro Sohail because you don't have commerical experience perhaps you should apply for graduate recruitment places for next year too and in the meantime sign upto an agency and do some temp work.

Good Luck.

Sorry to hear that Brother Arshad! However you'll get an even better job soon, Insha Allah, and in the meantime you can entertain us all with anecdotes.  :)

Bro's Sohail and Anik...any chance of you moving to Ireland? My best friend is an electronic engineer and never had a problem getting a job. She's working now in a waste water treatment company designing circuit boards or something, well I think the switches for the thingies they sell to companies. And then she has to go out on sites and check everything is going okay. Her fiance is also an electronic engineer and he works for Baxter..those hospital people. He mainly is in charge of dialysis machines..has to go dashing off in the middle of the night when one breaks down somewhere, but he gets well paid for it.

So, although the Celtic Tiger has somewhat slunk back into the woods a bit, I think the job front for qualified and graduated people in Ireland is still very good.. :)

okay, so much for that...
happy Job Hunting!!

Bhaloo, noooooo!! :(  How come?
May Allah give you sabr and help you and the other brothers who're looking for jobs find much better jobs than the ones you had.  Ameen. I know it's a horrible feeling to be out of work (for you brothers it must be even worse than for a sis) but insha Allah this is a test that you'll pass with flying colors.  Sabrun jameel

Jazak Allah khairen for all the concern. :)

I had worked at this company for 7 months.  The pay was incredible, in addition I was supposed to get a huge bonus for staying at this company at the end of this month (i have this written), but they let me go before they could pay me this bonus.  So I have learned that a lawyer said I could sue the company on this basis to collect that money.  I had my own office even.  Why did they let me go?  I don't really know.  Was it because I prayed in my office?  Was it because of my name?  Was it because our company deals with the airline industry?  Was it because I didn't participate or listen to their jokes about Afghanistan, terrorism, etc?   Allahu alam.

Like sister M.F. said, it is a horrible feeling to be out of work.  Its like no one cares about you and that there is something wrong with you.  Qadrallah.

Do you think that the dismissal was racially motivated? Sometimes when something bad happens we end up thinking the worst. The dismal may well be related to the ailing economy, in which case they should have offered you a redundancy pay out.

But if you feel 'sure' the dismissal was racially motivated I think you have another reason to sue. So many muslims are struggling to find work despite having the talent, experience, qualifications. Suing and getting this case publically recognised would be a way to fight back for Muslims.

If I had to endure hearing jokes from my workmates, if I was made to feel different because I dressed differently even though I was the same as everyone else,if I felt so lonely day in day out, I would be relieved to leave the company :) Maybe Allah has better things waiting for you Arshad. Be patient Brother.

[slm],

I am also an electrical engineering major although I took a job in the software industry after graduating. Usually tech companies that I have seen laying off people do not give advance notice although some do. My company just called few of us one fine afternoon and said they have to end our employment because the company is not doing well financially and they got some papers signed gave us a box to pack our things and asked us to leave immediately.

They have called me back for 3 weeks to finish a project and they took away my severance they initially gave me, because they knew I was in a weak position with my visa and stuff, Allahu Alam. But its tough to get a job these days and my 3 weeks are getting over soon.

I am really sorry to hear about these trials too :( May Allah grant you all the strength to persevere through these hard times. Bhaloo I kinda know what you are talking about...when I got laid off I felt so aweful. And all these job interviews I went on, they took one look at my hijab and I could tell it made a difference to them esp. cuz i had moved down south...
But in the end it worked out well, i got a lesser paying job But it has great hours and more flexibility, less stress etc...So I'm saying all this to say, you never know what Allah has in store for you..and with every hardship comes ease...

Jazakallahu khayran Sr. Barr. I have no problems with relocation, I just need a job!!! :)

Actually, I have been applying to some places in Singapore. My brother is in Singapore so it is a priority location for me outside the U.S.

Barr, are there any websites that have these advertisements (civil engineering, information technology) that I can check out?

wasalaam.

Bcos of this economic  slowdown
We Engineers's have to keep our heads down..
Where ever we go, our face wears a frown..
Not knowing when we'll be thrown down !!!!!!!!

Mails from girlfriends have slowed down
We've lost from our heads, the valuable IT crown
Dreams once soared to the height of the moon
Now searching for a job in the hot noon !!!!!!!

New house, new cars, all dreams are shattered
"I knew this wud happen" a father-in-law muttered
Our frequent flier miles are badly hit
Foreign visit boasts have gone down a bit !!!!!

Engineer's were once the preferred  bridegroom
Now there's no scope for even being a groom
Never forget the days when we used to fly so high
Coz the only thing now  left in life is to sigh!!!!!!!!

Don't worry for whatever happened to IT
Now you got a better option  not  to declare  IT*
Drop all the courses from NIIT,
Terrorism, Attacks served as hot tea, You've a
better option now in LTTE  .[/center]

Bismillah Rahman Rahim, Wa salatu wa salam ala'a Rasul Karim
Salam alaykum bro'

I'm sorry to hear about your job situation, whatever happened just keep up the hope and know deep down that is written, just try your best, keep on knocking at all the possible doors and one will eventually open, it's a matter of time, sabr and dedication. Just pray for khayr , for you might get a job, but it's not khayr for you, no baraka in it, trouble everyday in that company, and the money seems to fly away for no apparent good reasons, the hours are nuts and end up messing you up,(iman wise, no time for yourself, halaqas, community, relatives and friends) as oppose to another were everything fits in like pieces of a puzzle. At the end of the day everything is written and it's just a matter of the sabab to happen and you'll get what's khayr for you. Meanwhile hit the Network, Agencies, Web recruiters (Monster.com, etcc..), draw a plan for all the major companies and approach them, one by one. Approach all the folks you might have known through your old job.
IF it might help some brother left a good job in Canada with one of the top Canadian bleu chip, moved to the middle east, he was offered a good job, but then when he got here, things were different, the 9/11 happened and he’s stuck, and the company in Canada has just laid off by the thousands. The plus sign among other things is your rizq will come when it has to come, how it has to come and no one will hold it back for you. The plus sign is he can hear 5 times a day the azan and the masjid is just 100m from home, and just opposite the beach. That's for a starter, i'm not talking about the others parts.:-)

May Allah[SubHana Wa Ta`ala ] bless you with that which is far superior than what you lost in matters of akhera and protect you from a job which is a fitnah for you.
