Ever heard of these narrations?

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

Does anyone know where these narrations come from (source, authenticity for the first)?  Both are profound, but I haven't any idea what the sources are...

1. A man asked the Prophet (saws) to interpret this recurring dream he was having.  In the first dream, he dreamt of a small rock, which he could not lift.  The next time, he dreamt of a larger rock, which he could lift, but only with great effort.  The third time, he dreamt of a very large rock, which he could lift very easily. From what I recall, the interpretation was that the first (small) rock was a minor sin, which the man was feeling guilty about doing, and reconciled not to do it due to his conscience.  The larger rock was a more major sin, which he grappled with, but did it anyway (or maybe he repeatedly did the first sin).  The large rock was a major sin, which he did with no restrain from his conscience.  May Allah (swt) protect us from ignoring our “guilt” or conscience and indulging in sin, knowing that we may be hardening our heart, and thereby, possibly losing protection and guidance from Allah, and falling into more sin.

Se7en or anyone else in touch with Br. Djafar, I could be wrong, but I think I heard this during one of his khutbahs way back.  I could also be way off on the details, but I’ve been wondering where this narration came from ever since...

2. When Omar (rA) was Amir-ul-mu’mineen, he was asked by one if his governors if his particular principality could be funded for a gate for protection from its belligerent enemies.  Omar refused the request after some deliberation, instead advising the governor to impart justice, so his enemies wouldn’t feel the need to threaten him.

I think someone posted this sometime directly after 9/11/01.  Can’t recall where or by who, but was also wondering about the source of this narration.

JazaakAllahu khairan (and I hope you find the sources for your request, too, se7en)
