Islam in America: Peril & Promise Muslim Support Group will be hosting an educational retreat scheduled for Memorial Day weekend Friday May 24 through Monday May 27, 2002. It continues in the same vein as MSG's overall vision and objectives. MSG has confirmed an impressive lineup of scholars from across the United States to address the social, political, and intellectual challenges of Muslims inAmerica. In the wake of the recent tragedies of September 11 there is a need for Muslims, especially in America, to engage their resources for introspection and to effectively disseminate the unadulterated teachings ofIslam. MSG is pleased to have confirmed the following academic scholars: * Dr. Abd al Hakim Jackson - Professor University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) * Dr. Umar F. Abd-Allah - Instructor Nawawi Foundation (Chicago) * Dr. Sulayman Nyang - Professor Howard University (Washington D.C.) * Dr. Ingrid Mattson - Professor Hartford Seminary (Hartford) * Dr. Aminah McCloud - Professor DePaul University (Chicago) These scholars were carefully selected for their scholarship, expertise, and ability to effectively communicate with the participants. The retreat's theme Islam in America: Peril & Promise will expound on ideas of pluralism, civil discourse, introspection, the history of Islam in the Americas, and Islam's overarching principles of justice, goodwill, decency, and morality. We expect 90 to 100 participants from across the country though the majority will be from within the state of Texas. We will be holding the retreat at Camp Young Judea http://www.cyjtexas.org/retreat.html, an exclusive retreat nestled in the hill country near San Marcos, Texas. Camp Young Judea's facilities are ideal for the retreat envisioned by MSG. They provide an all-inclusive package that includes air-conditioned cabins, dining and meeting facilities, an assortment of recreational facilities and activities including boating, hiking, sports, and swimming, and fully prepared Kosher meals and snacks. Though actual costs per person are higher, with the help of donations and charitable contributions we are able to subsidize the cost per person for a savings of over $70.00. We anticipate that your cost per person will be only $150.00. |
