Does anyone know of a web site where you can listen to the Quran being read over the pc? I am going to be home a lot the next few days and if there is a site where I can listen I would appreciate if you can tell me.

Thank You :)

Hi Cara,

You can listen to Quran recitation here. This page has recitations of many famous qaari's (recitors). I would recommend Mishary Al-Efaasi.

Also, check out the resources section of jannah.org. There are some good stuffs there too.

Here's a Qur'an reciter... its helpful for learning, but only for the sounds and Arabic, not the English translation:

Dear Cara,

Your post reminded me of a day long ago that changed my life.

I had a deep dark secret- Listening to the recitation of the Qu'ran was like fingernails down a chalk board. It was so bad- and how does a Muslim say this to anyone?

One night a couple were giving me a ride home and they were playing Arabic in a car. It was beautiful and melodic. I asked them what it was - imagine my delight when they told me it was Quran!

It was then that I learned that there were different types of recitation. So, needless to say, "shop around" if this pertains to you!

Personally I like Imam Sheikh Sudais.

Hey Cara

there's also this thread called "Who are the best Quran Recitors" or something of that sort in the International House of Kabobs..i think it has some names of good recitors there and some websites, so you might want to check that out as well :)

Hi Caraj,

Try this site http://www.radioislam.com/Quran/.

Drag any of the sound files(Surahs) onto your player, the beauty of it is that you have "Classical Arabic in 'Tajweed' style recitation by Abdul Basit Abdul Samad and English translation read by Dawud Wharnsby Ali based on English script from 'The Meaning of the Holy Quran' by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. ". Classic, simply classic.

I wish I could pray like Sheikh Abdul Basit.

Enjoy,

Hanif

as salaamu alaykum,

Cara, as Kathy said, recitors have different styles.  You just have to find one that has the flavor you like :)

The Jannah.Org Quran Page has some shorter suras [chapters from the Qur'an] along with their meaning in English, so that might be of some benefit.

The link in the Kabob House that was mentioned is here and a link to some recitation by Shuraim is here.

Hope this is of help :)  If you have any questions or anything, we're game :)

Yeah, I love Abdul Basit Abdul Sammad too..beautiful and powerful voice..I personally prefer the Egyptian recitors (not bc they are Egyptian)..Saudi recitors tend to go to fast for me..

In addition to Abdul Basit, I have many other favs like.. Muhammad Jibreel, Mustafa Ismail, Al Tablawi, Al Husari, and Al Manshawi...

I think all of these recitors are found on the Islamway site..

check out the first link zanfaz has posted. It has a long list of recitors and many of their recitations are in in MP3.

My personal favourites are Sa'ad alGhamidi and Mishary Al-Efaasi. Their recitations are just ammmaazzinngllly beautiful. I could just listen and listen. Recently i heard Shaykh Jibril (from Egypt i think) on some tv channel, and subhanallah, his recitation is very beautiful too.

Cara, definitely listen to some Saad alGhamidi recitations :)

wassalam
