British Souk

I am feeling quite guilty as a Brit because we have a whole souk to ourselves: 'British Souk' and nobody seems to be utilising it.

If non of the other Brit's object I was thinking perhaps we could turn the souk into something else inorder to maximise its potential and benefit a greater number of members on this board.

Here are some thoughts:

1) A worldwide souk : Postings of events etc from members of ALL nationalities (except American :)) e.g. Brits, Indians, Egyptians, Singaporeans, Saudi's, Nigerans etc

2) A job bank: Postings of jobs/positions for Muslim's from around the world.

3) New Muslim souk: A place where people wanting to convert/interested in Islam  can find information (instead of going to the ummah community centre and then running away :)). New converts can talk to with other converts, get advice etc.

Just a thought :)

Assalaam Hania, i like Idea 3 the best. Only problem is how you gona convince the Mods?

Would you like me to send in my new found military, and take over the british soque, then hand over power to you so you can do as you please?

Idea two was not really too good, idea one is Ok, but 3 is a GREAT idea, however the downside is, reverts may think to themselves "why do they have a separate board for us, are they trying to keep us out of the other forums?" Always a danger baby Hania :)

JAK for your support Brother Mujaahid :) I think we should stick to peaceful negotiations and only if the enemy fail to comply we can send in the PRETZELS!!

good idea hanAia (lol, if you haven't read the thread about favorite books yet, go read it, you'll understand why i said hanAia)

but yeah, i was thinking why the brits had a thread to themselves and it rarely has that new sign and when it did for a while, it was that thread looooooooong ago saying Eid was on Sunday ;-D hehe

but i like all of your ideas, inshaAllah the mods can agree on something and figure it all out :)

and mujaahid- why do you call her baby hania? how old are you hania??? mujaahid calls me a baby too and i'm only two years younger than him! :( he thinks he's da man :P

ayte, take care, Wasalaams

I suppose we're not using the Brit forum that much because all topics can be discussed elsewhere - bebzi, bros/sis cafes etc, hence only public announcements or local issues specific to the UK would be posted.....which doesn't seem much anyway....:o

reg: souk means market in arabic

as for converting the souk - how about

1. using it as a virtual spiritual retreat

2. a thread for qur'an recitation and audio files/lectures etc

I had often thought that a forum for converts would be a great addition to this board. For people visiting the board for the first time, maybe thinking of asking a question, it wouldn't seem so intimidating if there was a place specifically designed for this purpose. It wouldn't be limited to converts... born muslims could also post replies to questions and join in on discussions where maybe experiences are shared or compared.
