Online banking?

Do any Brits do online banking here? How safe is it? Have you ever had any problems with it?

I tried to look for a comparison by "Which?" online but it went thru to some members-area-only place. Man.. too many places that you are forced to become a member of... password overload. Even the Muslim Directory site doesn't allow you to search for mosques without logging in. Allow it man.

Actually i spoke to a friend and have chosen to go online with Natwest and they're just fine.

I wouldn't choose Egg personally - about a year ago there were two high-profile security breaches in their systems. So allow them.

Halifax on-line banking is good as well.  On-line banking is great news, with a touch of a button you can look at your account, it saves me so much time!

The only prob is finding an interest free bank, thats always worried me, anybody know of any banks that give this?

I don't know of any interest free banks myself, and even those that offer halal alternatives for financing the purchase of a home (for example, the Islamic Investment Banking Unit*) are still part of the global banking-riba system.

I once heard Sh. Ja'far Idris say that some Muslim heads needed to be put together to offer halal alternatives to people for getting loans - even if the inventors of such a scheme ended up super-rich, that wouldn't be a problem. The main thing is to get a viable halal scheme up and running. May Allah make that soon.

Most high street banks will stop interest into your account if you ask them. I have an account with Barclays and they were able to do this for me, no problem.

Assalamu'alaikum :-)

Midland (HSBC) would also stop interest in your savings account if you request them to.

Aww,

Salaams Bro,

Working within IT I guess there is only some security that is allowed, no system is ever tamper proof. Passwords are a poor mechanism people forget or write them down, if online banking is to be successful they should issue key fobs to everyone in that way the password is unique.

It also depends on how they have confgured their servers. How many firewalls they have and DMZ zones etc etc, and whats stopping a disgruntled employee from looking at your account and taking a penny from it. I guess it wouldn't matter too much only when its just one but how about if started to take off pennys from the millions of accounts.

Once my lecturer told me of a security incident that happened with his account, it went like somebody transferred money from his account even though he lived in Yorkshire, the money was drawn from down South from an ATM ? How's that possible, internal job.

Enough of the IT

Salaams
