What would you all do if a guy said they loved you in an
e-mail, but like you don't even know who this is. And for the brothers who
are reading this what would you do?

salam alaykum anon
me personally would wait for a next email, or reply to the one you just had.asking who it was. try to get details, and find out if it someone who is genuine.
if the person is, and you are interested to find out more, or have a meeting. then give him your guardian contact number, and let him sniff him out.but do not arrange to meet this person on your own.
be very careful, because love is a strong word that this person has used. you need to to think how is it possible for this person to love you? is it possible for this person to know you personally?
if not? is it possible he may of got to know you through someone else?
think about all theses possibilities
and make du'a to Allah for help

I agree with haleema, and at the same time you can always email back and tell the person you feel Love is a very strong word, therefore  you would like to know what the word 'Love" means to him and not in the same but a second email ask what about me do you love? This way you can get to know him too. (that is if you are even interested)

When he tells you what he loves about you then you can proceed to ask HOW do you know this about me?

Just conversation starters and a great way to get into his mind :)

Then if you want to know if he is really serious/genuine tell him he must pass your Medina families approval test :)  and tell him to come see us :O

Aww,

Couple of words, fear Allah mate or fear Allah Sis. And then see his/her response.

Words like 'love' are very powerful, if used in the wrong context then it can lead to major haraam. Don't say words that arouse strong emotional thoughts. And if someone is genuinely interested in you, then that person should get his guardian to contact your guardian. And no not by email or IM.

I'll post a hadith up insha-allah about love amongst the brothers and sisters. And how it should be said.

salaams

I guess it really depends on the situation.  I had this happen to me with a fellow from Morroco.

Before I was married (was not a muslim then) I placed a personal ad looking for friendships with people.  I was very new to the internet and wanted people to email with.  I received a few responses and I made sure to answer them all with a friendly "hi how are you doing" sort of thing.

Well this fellow wrote me back and asked me to become engaged with him.  I was totally in shock as I had no experience about how muslims acted in these sorts of things.  I told him of course I would like to get to know him better and such, since it sort of sparked an interest in why someone would ask for engagement so quickly:)

I met my husband through this personal ad (not the guy from Morroco) and we emailed for at least 2 months before he told me he loved me.  We were also chatting for about 1 hour a day at this time (He was in Egypt).  When he told me he loved me I believe him, because we had developed a very good friendship at this point.  I ended up marrying him 16 hours after we met in person.  He had already asked me to do this months before we met.

So I guess what all my rambling is about is that I would have to know the situation before I could judge what this fellow wants from you:)
