Media is ripping islaam to shreds, what you gona do about it?

Assalaamu-alaikum

For quite a while now i've been following the media reporting about islaam with growing dismay! Now all the young brothers who are pratising islaam fully, are being labelled as extremists and fanatical. The media is saying fanatisim (practising islaam properly) is growing fast among the muslim youth. The groups who give Dawa, and call for people to return to the deen are being labelled as fanatical, and preaching extremism! They are saying supporting the chechens, or having sympathies with Bin Laadin, or havign sympathies with palestinians is indicating we support terrorism (attacks on innocent people).

And what is worse is KNOWONE is speaking out aginst it!! The british public is being brainwashed, and none of us seem to be doing much to counteract this!! Why? If not in person, then why not do something on the net?

Did anyone last night watch news night? They tried to label a muslim youth group as supporting and preaching terrorism, yet when they interviewd the spokesman, he fractured the news peoples case, but i could see in the BBC guy's face, how much hate he had for islaam!

I treid in vain last time to get you guys to join me in giving Dawa to these people directly. The BBC forums get 18'000 hits a day, that is massive, a massive window of oppurtunity for us muslims, so why dont we make good use of this?

The boards are moderated well, so no abuse is allowed, but these people still diss islaam and thier is knowone to counteract what they say. The BBC have brainwshed the british public, and we muslims, even though we have the oppurtunity to do something about it, we choose to do nothng.

Last time i was seriously disspointed when so many people ignored the Cyber Dawa coalition, it was disspointing. Why didnt people join? I dont know, maybe they just dont care about giving dawa, maybe thier busy, i dont know, but something is seriously not right when we have an oppurtunity to give Dawa, and we dont use it.

I will go on my own to the BBC forums to give Dawa, however i was hoping others would have joined me, as one muslim popping on talking about islaam will do nothing for them. However if they see a number of muslims, it will have an affect on them, it will see that islaamic views are not held only by a few people but by many muslims, its a golden chance to give Dawa. 18'000 people, we have the oppurtunity for EIGHTEEN THOUSAND PEOPLE to see what we muslinms have to say, how can we NOT make use of this?

I hope you guys join me in giving Dawa. On my own, it may well be a waste of time, but with more then myself, we can make a BIG difference.

Please think about.

Giving Dawah is a sensitive task. A person must not alienate people even before the message is given.

I know a Muslim that wants to do dawah but sends anti American jokes to Americans, using the e-mail addresses he recieves from a group mailing.

Now why would a person join forces with a Muslim who does this?

Dawah is just basically "calling".  In this case, calling people to Islam or calling Muslims "back" to Islam.  The purpose?  Just sharing Islam with people I guess.
Calling people to Islam is something that one has to be very careful about.  A Muslim living in the West has to be especially careful about how they represent Islam.  I always had a feeling that giving da'wa is as simple as setting a good example of a Muslim.  If a person looks at me they'll know I'm a Muslim right away because of the way I dress.  Now if I'm nice and act like I'm supposed to act as a Muslim, the person will have a good impression of Muslims.  If not, and I act arrogant and unkind , they'll have a bad impression.
It's also very important when doing dawa to be gentle.  Human beings don't like being talked down to or talked to harshly.  A holier than thou attitude won't get anyone anywhere.  When Allah instructed Moses to go give da'wa to the Pharoah, He told him to speak gently with him!  The Qur'an instructs us not to argue with the people of the book (Jews and Christians) except with what is better, meaning in a kind way and using good words and good manner.  Another thing Allah instructs us to do in the Qur'an when giving da'wa is not to curse other people's gods!
There's a whole science of da'wa and I'm sure someone else can do a much better job explaining it than me :)

hmmmmm....the replies in this post now make me more aware of why some brothers and sisters don't like to give dawah.  "I'm busy"  "I'm not a scholar" "Someone can do a better job than me"  It's usually a combination or variation of these three.  At school we have our dawah table and it's always the same group that volunteers, subhana'Allah we have so many Muslims on campus yet they always have an excuse when we ask them to volunteer at least 15 minutes of their time.  :(

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllah,

Brother maybe you should consider whether it's the *method* being used here that people are hesitant about, not the notion of engaging in daawa.

The reason I say this is because hittin up other sites/rooms where Islam is being trashed is something I've done before, and from my experience it was just a lot of wasted time and effort.  There was actually a crew of me and a few others that used to do this, and it faded out because within a few weeks we realized that our energies could better be used elsewhere.

I'm not dismissing your idea bro.. may Allah reward you for it and for your passion for the deen.  All I'm saying is, maybe you should think of organizing the method more, getting a concrete plan together.. then recruiting people and inshaAllah getting things done.  Looking at the site I already see bad results occuring from haphazard daawa.

just my thoughts on the issue.. you can def disagree with me on this..

wasalaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllah
