What I learned about Muslims and Islam so far :)

What I learned about Muslims and Islam so far is:

1)They are no different from most folks in this way>>> They are human and love, hurt, breath, wish, hope, cry, celebrate, etc

2) I find them to be MUCH more reverent of God/Allah than most.

3) Muslims are firm and pasionate in their beliefs and even if they don't agree with you, once the debate is over the are still your friend.

4) They are a proud people and can be proud without flaunting it. And a Muslims woman's pride is in her God and her family, not her body and flaunting it. As a woman, a wife and the mother of sons I really like and respect the modesty. It is a breath of fresh air.

5) Their God is our God, they just might look at things a little different. But Their God is my God cause he is the one and only and the same God of Adam, Eve, Abraham, Issac, Ishmeal, Jacob etc, etc
I never knew this as I assumed Allah was a different God. I couldn't believe how simular the beliefs are.

6) I was worried how I would be accepted by not only the board here bu others who I talk to in Saudi and Pakistan cause I am a military wife. So far no one has even shunned me and I was told by a brother in a Middle Eastern country,... "Cara, not that the US is my enemy but if it were, in Islam it is against Islam to even harm a enemies family. You are my sister and that makes your husband my brother-in-law."  Talk about acceptance.

7) Why is it when in a Muslim chat room I am talked to with great respect and accepted with open arms and not in the Christian chat or other chat rooms? Not saying this is the case all the time, but often.

Reverence for God/Allah
Respect for me as a sister
Open arms and heart
Modesty
Acceptance no matter my age or figure or statis
I find Muslims to be very accepting and hospitalble (spelling) people
I find most Muslims to be quite humble people
I find Muslims to be forgiving people
I find Muslims to be willing teachers

I have found that Muslims don't care where you came from, they are just thrilled their path crossed with yours and as you continue on the path they are great companions and if you put aside your misconceptions the companionship no matter if 5 minutes, 5 hours or 5 day will be not only a  rich learning experience but a blessing :)
When I leave a Muslim friend be it in person or on the pc I always feel like I am leaving my family.

I need to go but will add more later. I hope my words have come across alright as there is so much in my heart and mind it is sometimes hard to organize them and put them into writing.

I hope this doesn't sound silly, I am just speaking from my heart.

Isra why did you do the >>> :( sign  ???
I was refering to all the Muslims I have personally come in touch with, on this board and in person and on the pc. I meant all I said in the highest regard and as a compliment.

Has there something I said you didn't like? Yes all people Muslim and non Muslim are different. But there are some very nice simularities I find in Muslim people that I find very nice.

Thank you Cara :)
No it doesn't sound silly at all.  I for one really appreciate that you shared that with us. I'm sure I'm not the only one to wonder what a person who doesn't know about Islam would think of Islam when it's represented correctly (as correctly as our limited knowledge allows anyway, speaking for myself about the limited knowledge :))  I always feel sure that if only a person would make the effort to take a look at Islam, as you have, they'd find the things that you've found: acceptance, respect, love for God and each other, passion, they'd find out to their surprise that we worship the Creator that they worship too, and that He is the most important factor in their lives and love for Him is what directs their lives.
I'm so grateful that you were able to find these things out!  I really respect the fact that you have an open enough mind to bother looking into it!! :)  A lot of people wouldn't do that either because they're afraid (of what they'll find or of what "people" will say) or because they think they don't have to (meaning they think they already know everything about it already).  It takes a certain level of humility and a lot of open mindedness to want to learn about something different.
Ok I've said my piece :)

Cara, I've said it before and I'll say it again: You rock!  Ok, not in the Bill&Ted's sort of way, but masha'Allah, I pray you are guided to what is true in your heart.  This board seems to be rare (not by my doing), so may Allah protect it, and make the regulars (and non-regulars) the doers of good.  One thing Muslims are taught to say to protect/maintain something good, by the will of God, is:

"Mashaa'Allah, la quwwata illa billah" which means "That which Allah wills (comes to pass), there is no power except with Allah".

:)

Cara there's an Arab saying your post reminded of:  what comes from the mouth goes just to the ear; but what comes from the heart reaches other hearts.

keep on keepin' on :)

asalamu alaikum,

i would definitley agree that you Rock!

You have recieved a very warm welcome I am sure not only because we are muslims and that's how we should treat you, but because of YOUR personality and your willingness to learn and accept as well.

We never heard a "ewwww, that's gross" or "that's messed up" or "you guys are wrong" kinda attitude from you, and as far as I know I didn't hear any military talk, which is good.

But I do warn you of something sister.  Muslims, like all people, come in many different shapes and sizes (like you yourself mentioned). In one way I would like to bring some reality here and remind you that these people here are *modern* muslims and have that scope to help everyone feel welcome, there is an air of youthful (not necessarily young though) cheerfulness that perhaps reflects the tolerance not just of Islam, but of the world where we live.

I would encourage you again to not form any solid conclusions on people because they will ALWAYS let you down, and I am sure your wise enough to know that.  Islam is the best thing to learn about whereas muslims aren't always the poster-people of life.

I am just saying this because I don't want you to be turned off one day when an un-pretty reality confronts you.

There will be entire towns who may reject you somewhere.  E-boards that may not treat you well and harass you.  People may do this in the name of religion and provide Islamic reference.  To them, they re completely right, because no one person *owns* Islam and thus it is subject to a lot of interpretation.  Islam has only a good face, while muslims have both good and bad faces, that's my view of the reality.  Muslims, unfortunately, sin as well, and it may be that you visit a country and expect jannah.org treatment, and it MAY or MAY NOT be there.

I don't know why I'm saying this, because your level of intelligence seems capable to handle it.  I *do* think there is this post-modernist sort of moulding of the board which makes it so open.  Others may not be like this, in fact, the majority of your experiences MAY or MAY NOT be like this.

If you know all this, ignore my post up till here.

Allah SWT forgive me if I have mistakenly offended anyone.

i hope I'm not busting your bubble, but on to my reply:

1)I have found muslims are probably the most religion-abiding people in the world.

2) Muslims are probably the most willing as well to die in the way of their faith for truth.

3) Muslims are probably the most realisitic people as well i feel.

4) They are very passionate... its strange how muslims on opposite sides of the world think alike and even react alike when it calls for their strength.

aslaamu alaikum. abdullah,.

er, I think there was a bit of misunderstanding. Brother Isra has the sad face as the default icon in his posts, so every single one of his posts is gonna have a sad face. So in this particular thread it's not that he is sad, it's just that icon he is using is his default icon.

well, I hope I'm right, otherwise I'll look like an idiot :o

assalaamu`alaa man ittiba al huda

Cara, I see sincerity in you, mashaa'Allah.

The late scholar of Islaam, Muhammad Asad(Leopold Weiss), he knew so much abt Islaam before he became a Muslim and he was infact defending Islaam from Muslims. What moved him to revert to Islaam was when a Muslim told him ,"You're already a Muslim, only you don't know it." That moved him and if I can recall correctly, it was not long after he took the shahaadah. This is from one of the most beautiful books ive ever read, The Road to Makkah(his autobiography).

another super muslimah, Shariffa Carlo, as she says in her story, she had been taught, argued with, insulted but never invited until a da`i invited her to Islaam and then it clicked. so sister if no one has invited you to Islaam before, it would be the greatest honour if I could be the first.

theres only one matter worth hastening to and ie to Islaam. The best of good deeds is the one that is done without delay. do not deprive yourself of the reward which you will earn the sooner you enter Islam. I ask Allaah to help you and make things easy for you, to open your heart to the truth and help you to adhere to it.

all you have to do is to say with conviction in you heart -

La ila ha Illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah
There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

Kul amantu biLlahi thummas taqeem.
