[would you marry a sister with a tatoo?]

Asalamu Alaikum, As we all know, reverts to Islam also come with some "baggage" that they may or may not regret.   So my question to the brothers is, would you marry a muslimah who had a tattoo although she was a good practicing muslimah and regrets having it done? If you would marry someone with a tatto, how would you feel about it?   Also for those who say no they wouldn't, why? Jazak Allahu Khair

salaam, I think the PAST is the PAST. I dont see what harm a tatoo could do to a good releationship? I dont see anything wrong with it. If she is a good practising muslimah a tatoo wouldnt stop me from marrying her. Mohmmad

salam, well im not a brother, but if i married a convert with a tattoo from his past, i would simply ask him to have it removed, i would ask him to remove it before we got married...its painful but he has to do it, its haram to have tattoos.... wasalam nouha:)

[slm] For me it would depend *where* it is and *what* it is of. People have them put in all sorts of awkward places nowadays ;) which could  keep reminding you of their past and affect the relationship. Personally I find them quite repulsive so wouldn't feel comfortable about having to see it every now and then, let alone if it had some other guys name on it! :o If its just a Dolphin on the ankle or sommat, then that is tolerable. I like Dolphins :) But get it removed if possible.

Assalaamu-alaikum Where is the tatooe? And what ios it off? Its now possible to have it taken off, removed, with lasers. is it a backside tattoee?

Asalamu Alaikum, Although it is now possible to have tatto's removed by lazer, we must also remember how much it costs in most states.  It is very expensive and most lower to middle class working individuals cannot afford to have this done. So I believe the question was if you would marry a sister with a tattto being that it was from her past.  I'm sure she (I) would gladly get it removed if she had the money. So what I am getting so far is that it would depend on where the tatto was located and what it was that she had tattoed on her correct? Jazak Allahu Khair

Now if the tatto had was exposed then I'd say cover that up wa man. And if the newly weds (couple) can't afford to have it surgically removed then try your utmost to cover it with a piece of cloth. asalamu alaikum, no offense, but what's up with all the WOULD YOU MARRY SUCH-AND-SUCH A PERSON threads? lol simple: 1)are they muslim? 2)will they be faithful to me? 3)do they seem like they strive for good and truth of Islam? Yes to all these questions and that's all any muslim should need. There are brothers who offer to marry a FEW prostitutes just to take them off the streets to protect them and share Islam with them, and these women who get used up to like 10 times a night with drugs and disease all over, tatoos and piercings and freaky pasts ACCEPT ISLAM because that is the miracle: How can you say "depends where it is" if these people have repented to ALLAH SWT (Insha'Allah) and can't help it? It takes you from WORST to FIRST. When no one wants you, Allah SWT STILL WANTS YOU. And depending on your level of imaan, it depends how much you will believe in these people and accept them and trust them. I don't mean to be poking at people who ask these questions, but for a muslim shouldn't these duniya things be like obviously ingored as long as the person is abiding by Islam NOW? asalamu alaikum. abdullah,.

as salaamu alaykum, Just wanted to make a quick clarification - it's not haraam to *have* a tatoo, it's haraam to *get* a tatoo.  There's some question as to whether one should have it removed or not, but from what I've seen from scholars the only time it's really considered obligatory is when it is something 'unIslamic'. I'll add more and the links to some prev discussions on this tonight inshaAllah.. gotta jet wasalaam

When choosing our spouse we're allowed to base this on looks, imam character etc. If we find something repulsive about someone and are not comfortable with it, then its perfectly within our rights not to consider them for marriage. Some people are not comfortable in having a partner, with say, a 8x8 inch tatoo of the Devil on their stomach or of a blood-soaked Snake on their posterior! ;-D :) That would kinda scare me... Thats why to me it would matter where and what it was of. And I'm pretty sure that applies to others too but they just haven't come out and said it. People always to love to give it "oh its their islam that matters, they repented to Allah so whats wrong", but the truth is when choosing a marriage partner, we tend to look at everything, including appearance. Oh crikey, I have a feeling Se7en is gonna talk about this revert brother with tatoos all over his arms etc ;) Shes mentioned him before :)

aslaamu alaikum, yeah the marriage threads are getting trite, but the thing i was aying was, why so many threads on people dissecting their potential spouses? It might even be hard on people here, thank God I didn't get that huge India tatoo on my back a few years ago when my mummy took me, otherwise like half of the sisters here wouldn't even look at me now! lol jokes, but you know, we gotta stop cutting people apart and all... people are different, coming in all shapes and sizes... these superficial, pre-Islami awareness types of questions or behavioural questions are getting played A PERSON AN INSAAN is SO much more than just............. a tattoo a peircing an ex-boy/girlfriend a drag of a cigarette a swig of brew a weight problem a hijab an acne problem a beard dyed hair a child from a previous marriage a regretfully lost virginity I mean, all these things matter, but we start to capitalize on these things... and lose sight of the GIFT OF LIFE in that HUMAN from ALLAH SWT. asalamu alaikum. abdullah,.
