Clinique has a nice scent, "happy." I like it cause it's not too flowery, very simple and light.

I soo hate all those flowery smell stuff, all that perfume stuff...I guess Im not a true girl eh? oh well, ----but nah, I have a sensitive nose, it just bothers me, especially those perfume places or bath and body places...arrgghhhhh---the only one I can stand is the BODY SHOP, and the bodywash that I use is oil of olay....so u can see most of my things are unscented or if they are it has more of a FRESH smell, NO FLOWERY ---
But a few weeks ago I had to buy flowery body spray b/c eating out and having that smell on my clothes was not kosher, u dig...(especially when I went to the Indian restaurant)...and I guess its not that bad, that is the flowery smell, but its not my thang...ya Im that strange kind of girl :D

----Oh but I love me some victoria secert stuff, but even sometimes they are tooo fruity and toooooooo EXPENSIVE for me, so when I go to 7s I tend to get out of hand ;)

Peace

Laboogie I know somewhere, deep down inside, you dig the rose and lilac scented stuff :P

you guys, I kind of have this.. addiction.  to lotion.  I know that's weird, but I have like twenty bottles on my dresser and it's still a struggle for me to stay away from victorias secret and the body shop to buy more..

For eid a while back my bro got me a bag full of stuff - lotion, cream, bodywash, perfume, soap etc all in victorias secret's 'secret crush' scent (my favorite)

my bro rocks sometimes :)

Speaking of lotions, anyone know one that REALLY works.  I have really dry skin on my hands and everything I use is just a stop-gap, the moisture doesn't last very long.

My opinion, for people who have really dry skin regular lotions doesn't work, the best cure for that is Baby Oil or this one which is really wonderful!! Its like a really nice thick oil, even though they call it lotion. And if you hate that oily feeling on the skin, before going to bed after a nice shower put this on your body and the next day InshaAllah you won't have that shinyness. LOL

Try Vaseline Intensive Care body lotion. That works for sure on dry skin. And smells nice too :)
I wouldn't go for oily stuff when you're outside as they tend to leave finger/handprints everywhere:)

St. Ives Swiss Formula *rocks*.

Aveeno is good for your hands, though really expensive.

As salamu alaykum

Aveeno is good if you've got dry hands.  You could also try Crabtree & Evelyn Hand Therapy lotion.  I've got Sonoma Valley and it really smells nice.  If you don't care about the smell try Bag Balm.  Put some on and then wipe it off with a papertowel.

As for soaps I like Dove.

Asalaam Alaikum,
Ok this is *slightly* off topic but I just read a great book called
'Postmodernism and The Other, The New Imperialism of Western Culture' by Ziauddin Sardar and he has a chapter devoted to places like the Body Shop. I used to looove them, they have great lotions and fragrences, but Sardar BREAKS IT DOWN---basically saying its a postmodern insitution that banks on the experiences of Other cultures, turning it into a marketing ideology, their image exploits the longing for the exotic and ethnic Other in the West.
The Body Shop
"... deliberately conflates business expediency w/moral endeavor;   it appropriates the knowledge and the products of non western cultures (it's estimated that the ingredients acquired by the company under fair trade conditions account forless than 1% of its sales) it commodifies and repackages them in a genuine twist of postmodern irony, sells what was already theirs to the non west in smart green bottles w/shiny labels. Non western cultures may 'constitute less sophisticated socieities than our own', but their knowledge, ideas, history, experiences and products have acquired much greater currency in postmodern times than ever before"  (page 124)
Long quote from the book, but a great read. He also ties it into the fact that companies like East India CO and British India chain companies glorify imperialism. SHEESH!
Sorry to go off about the Body Shop, i used to think they were a great company and went there all the time til i read this book , i highly recommend it. And i'm not knocking anyone that goes there either, i'm just sayin...so no offense to Body Shop lovers!
Oh yeah and to get back on to the topic, I'm a big fan of Suave lotion, it's mad cheap and the peach kind smells yummmmmy!  :-)

alsalamu alaykum wa rhmat Allah wa barakatuhu:-)

i have a question...

many lotions have animal ingredients...i know for a fact the St. Ives Swiss formula uses pork/beef products (i e-mailed them and asked)..i used to use St.Ives cream but realised that some proteins in it could really only come from animals...i told a friend and we got grossed out....is it ok to use lotions that contain animal products?..even pork?... i stopped using lotions a long time ago because of being really uncertain and having an overall feeling that i shouldn't chance it...i mean...correct me if i'm wrong but our salat isn't accepted if we have najes on us..ie. impurities...and pork is considered najes right? ..maybe i'm way out there but what do you sis's/bro's think? ..

natural herbal stuff is amazing masha'Allah..but its sooo hard to find lotions that don't have animal ingredients...anyone know of some products out there?

please make dua'

Assalaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah

I *really* hate to bust "bubbles" (corny, I know), but in keepin it real, please take note of the AMJ article below referring to a recent boycott (still in effect).
[Disclaimer: Granted, there are a *lot* of companies out there with similar CEOs and whatnot, but this one's pretty well known for his views.]
Interesting how the mall, as we know it, is monopolized by a very select group...(admittedly, I was a big fan of The Body Shop until I got schooled by my sister).

Support smaller companies, or better yet, your local souk or internet Muslim businesses, insha'Allah.  I'm thinking I should have made this a separate thread, since I'm kind of going off on tangents...sorry, carry on.

http://www.amjerusalem.org/2-28-01%20Estee%20Lauder%20Boycott.htm

In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

AMJ holds Press Conference to Announce Estee Lauder Boycott
On Wednesday, February 28, American Muslims for Jerusalem (AMJ) lead a coalition of advocacy organizations in a press conference calling for a worldwide boycott of cosmetics giant Estée Lauder. That announcement was prompted by Estée Lauder International Chairman Ronald Lauder’s activities in support of Israeli right-wing extremists.

Estee Lauders products include: Estee Lauder line of perfume and make-up, Aramis, Clinique, Aveda, DKNY and Tommy Hilfegere toiletries products. Estee Lauder also owns several lines of hair and skin care products and shops such as M.A.C. and Origins.

Ronald Lauder is the Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations and President of the Jewish National Fund (JNF). JNF is a quasi-government agency whose main function is to legitimize Israeli’s theft of Palestinian land.

In January, Lauder was the key speaker from the US at a rally in Jerusalem, organized by right wing Israeli politician Natan Sharansky. The rally was organized to oppose the mere consideration of Jerusalem as a negotiation item. Lauder addressed 300,000 Israeli extremists at the gates of Haram Al-Sharif (the Noble Sanctuary, one of Islam’s three holiest sites). Some of the protesters tried to break into the holy site.

Khalid Turaani, AMJ’s Executive Director said “this boycott of Estee Lauder will send a clear message that people of conscience refuse to do business with corporations supporting Israeli apartheid policies which violate internationally-recognized human rights”.

In 1993, Lauder co-founded a think tank called the Shalem Center with Yoram Hazony, a former Netanyahu aid. The Israeli Education Ministry has said the center is “a research institute whose leanings are extreme right-wing and even fascistic.” Hebrew University professor Yisrael Bartal describes Hazony as a right-wing extremist. A columnist for the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz (9/14/2000) wrote that Hazony is a sympathizer of the slain radical Jewish leader Meir Kahane, who called for the expulsion of all Arabs from Israel. The goal of Hazony, wrote the columnist, is to find new ways of “breathing life into Kahane's racist, totalitarian, intolerant ideology.”

Ronald Lauder’s Jerusalem-rally speech came at a time when the Israeli government was waging a campaign of siege and starvation against the entire Palestinian population. While Mr. Lauder supports some legitimate charitable causes in the US, he shows his true colors when abroad by supporting fanatic causes that seek to uproot an entire population from its native land. Lauder is also opposed to permitting Palestinian refugees to return to their homes. “For Israel to allow these people to return would be national suicide,” he said in a statement last September. In contrast, the UN General Assembly has demanded that Israel allow the Palestinian refugees to return since 1948. "Lauder’s opposition to the return of Palestinian refugees in order to maintain the pure-Jewish identity of Israel is nothing short of apartheid at its worst" said Turaani.

my favourite scent is this perfume called True Love. it smells like roses and not too perfumey. unfortunately, i get headaches from most perfumes. i have some perfume from saudi arabia that contains no alcohol, but i dont know what it's called. it came in a blue velvet box thingy. :)
i have really dry skin on my hands but i cant use anything, including baby oil, because i wear contacts and i risk getting it in my eyes and boy does that kind of thing burn! also, my son likes to gnaw on my hands and i dont want him to get anything in his mouth :)

jaj, have you tried putting lotion on your hands before going to bed? My hands are the same, SubhanAllah very sensitive. I usually put lotion on my hands at night and until the morning, the lotion softens my skin Alhamdulillah. It works for me, Insha'Allah it'll work for you. I use Lubriderm and Alhamdulillah it works for me. There are different kinds though, normal skin, sensitive skin and seriously sensitive skin (that's the one I use ;)

Hmm...bodyspray??..I like turquoise seas. It's an awesome scent. Perfume wise, I sometimes use Sahara by Catherine Arley. I don't know if it's sold here, but my cousin sent it from Turkey.
I like all bodywash, but especially Herbal Essences...'i've got the urge..;-D;-D
