Lucid Dream

Have you guys done a discussion on lucid dreaming?. Lucid dreaming is realizing you're in a dream, while you're still in that dream. Anyone have such an experience?. I know of two people that have had such experiences on a nightly basis and both of them were incredibly smart. I've only had a few lucid dreams in my life, but I got so excited that I knew that I was in a dream, that I usually wake up.

Yeah i have them dreams, quiet often in fact, where your dreaming, and in that dream, you know your dreaming! Wierd! Dont have a clue why it happens, but sometimes its nice to know your gona wake up!! The dreams i really cannot stand, is those where your dreaming about preparing a big meal, and just as your about to start eating, you wake up! I HATE it when that happens :(

I dont know when/why lucid dreams occur, but they always seem to me, to happen in dreams where i'm outside in that dream, outdoors.

I'm gonna make a wild guess here and say that brother mujaahid you're an A/B+ student. My crazy theory is that the smarter you are the more the chances of you having a lucid dream. Because the two people that I know who have lucid dreams very frequently are both A/B+ students. Since I don't have them that often at all, I'm an idiot :p, hehe j/k.

So, anyway there are ways in which ANYONE can train themselves to have lucid dreams at will. I don't know whether something like that is prohibited in Islam or not?. One of the techniques involves you to ask yourself at random times throughout the day this question: "Am I dreaming right now?", you must look around and answer this question truthfully, and not just shrug it off, like of course I'm not dreaming!. What'll happen is over time, you'll ask this same question in your dream, and voila! you become lucid.

Another way to become lucid in your dream is to read something , look away and look at it again, if it's different, you're dreaming.

What I like about lucid dreams is that you can change the surroundings, people, and even yourself at your will. You can go visit any place you like, talk to anyone you like, fly like a bird, do anything you want - because it's all just a dream. I hope we won't be held accountable for the actions we make in our dreams.

There is a caveat here, if you're so obsessed with lucid dreams that you're ignoring your daily life, and being indifferent to people, then I'm afraid you're crossing the boundaries. I'd like to know what Islam has to say about lucid dreaming, but haven't come across anything like that yet.

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllah,

I've had dreams like that.  I always wake up though, very soon after I realize I'm dreaming within the dream.  I thought that was the norm, that as soon as you become cognizant of your dreaming, your body forces you to wake up.  Is it *really* possible to control your dreams in the way that you mentioned?  Do you know anyone who is able to do that?  Obviously we're talking about nafsi dreams here..

that is freaky.  [follow the white rabbit, neo......]

I've always gone to bed at insane hours, but recently there have been times when I haven't been able to discern between things that have occurred in reality, and things that have occurred in my dreams :-/ Like for example, having a conversation with a friend, sending an e-mail.. sometimes I really don't know if I've actually done these things or if they happened in a dream I had.. I've literally had to go back and check in my 'sent folder' or ask my friend what we talked about last to make sure.. it's *really* weird.

Anyway, now that we're getting into this freaky-deaky sort of stuff, how about remote viewing ["the ability to perceive places, persons and actions that are not within the range of the senses"]?  Anyone have any experiences they'd like to share?

wasalaamu alaykum :-)

I often wondered if I was the only one having dreams like this :o. I thought wow I can actually control my dreams to an extent and believed it was some sort of special gift. However most times this phemomenon occurs within bad dreams where the control was so fine that I could 'get out' of the dream and wake up when faced with impending danger or if in a distressed state. What I did was rubbed my eyes in the dream and keep reminding myself this is just a dream. Has anyone been able to do this too?

I'm not sure about controlling them to the extent as mentioned above but I have 'deliberately' hit someone and given them a piece of my mouth knowing it was a dream and that I could get away with it. She was an auntie I don't like ;-D
One or two times I have been able to transport myself from one place to another so as to quickly do something before I wake up.
Has anyone done anything similar? So far we haven't had any other examples given ;)

LOL Sis 007, never thought a logical person such as yourself would mention "remote viewing" :D
Although remote viewing is mentioned often with lucid dreaming, I don't really know whether it really happens or not.

In order to control of your dreams, it will take practice and patience. You can check out this website if you want, it breaks it down into 6 steps...

Because of my college and because of the fact that I'm the laziest person on earth, I've only been able to become lucid 2-3 times. Explorer I know exactly what you're talking about and I'm also not sure whether the dream can be classified as a "lucid" dream.

One time, I was getting chased by a bear and I rememberd by dad's advice (in real life), about blinking rapidly to wake up, so I blinked rapidly (in my dream) and woke up. I don't think this was a lucid dream because I still believed the bear was real. I think lucidity means you know that the ENTIRE dream is -- a dream!. Another time I'm screaming at my mom: "mom it's a dream!, mom it's a dream!", of course, this is not really being lucid because I still believed my mom was really there!.

Ok, a cool lucid dream I had as a kid was when I smashed through a steel door knowing full well that it wouldn't hurt, cuz' it was a dream. I went outside and started picking huge boulders LOL.
