Please don't be bored by reading another hijab/niqab thread...i just started wearing hijab and have so many questions...okay so what i wanted to know for now is that for people who live in the west ( i don't kno how many of your live here) how do you cover your face if you do?? like i'm pretty sure you don't wear a burqa like they do in afghanistan, but do you wear a burqa like they do in pakistan or saudi??

i was thinking of wearing a burqa but just using my large hijab as a cover for my face, my eyes would be showing though. i think that in america this would be best in college and university. wat do you think??

also how do some sisters wear silk hijabs?? i so badly want to wear them, cause some of the nicest designs come in silk, but they don't stay on my head..they slide off...is there a trick in it??

please do reply

jazakallah

As salamu alaykum Sis,

I'm going to attempt to explain how to wear a silk headscarf.  First if you know any Turkish sisters ask them.  If that does not work try following my instructions.
1. Wear an underscarf.
2. Pin the headscarf as you normally would under the chin.
3. Take one side of the headscarf and wrap it up around your head towards the back so that it is smooth and not wrinkly.  At the very top place a pin.  Also place a pin further down so that it does not flap.
3.  Take the other piece and pin it on the opposite shoulder underneath the scarf. ?????????

Insha'Allah this is helpful.

As for the niqaab.  My friends who wear one have either ordered from the internet or gotten them from Saudi.

As salamu alaykum

salam,

traingular -- simply place it on your head, pointy side in the back, and the other two pointy sides on the side, rapa round and pin it under your chin (not including your chin of course)

rectangular -- place it on your head, and make one side longer than the other, pin it under your chin and then take the longer side wrap it around your head, take another pin and place it on the top of your head to secure the wrap...

square -- just make it into a traingle and follow the traingular steps

burqa -- these hijabs are BIG and LONG, so just wrap around, sometimes u dont even need a pin

silk hijabs -- yes these are complicated..... hmm how about putting one of those tight haircovers, 9they look like bandanas, and then putting on the silky hijab, sometimes it works....

i hope it made sense

Alhamdulillah you're wearing hijab...
Since you've just started, take it slowly. Start off with just wearing the hijab, and after getting used to it, then switch to the burqa, Insha'Allah. B/c you don't want it to be really hard in the beginning, the transition should be slowly, Insha'Allah.

There is no trick in wearing a silk scarf. The Turkish have what is called an head-cap, which is basically a small round cap that fits your head to prevent the silk scarf from sliding, and Alhamdulillah it does a good job of preventing the hair from coming out of the sides of the scarf. If you can't get a cap, maybe you can get a headband, the ones that are cotton so they're not slippery kind, and if you put it on under the scarf, it also prevents the silk scarf from slipping Insha'Allah.

How Marcie explained the common Turkish style of pinning a silk scarf is pretty accurate Alhamdulillah. As easier way to also do it is after you pin the scarf under your chin, take one flap and pin it underneath the scarf on the opposite shoulder. Alhamdulillah that's also a good way to do it.

Assalamu'alaikum warahamatullahi wabarakatuh. :)

Masha'Allah, u've just started to wear the hijab.. :)yeah, tell us what happened? how were u influenced? :)

about the silk hijabs....i'm gonna repeat a few sisters and advise you to get one of them cap thingies that u wear under silk hijabs, so as not to let it slip off ur head.
If you can't get them cap things...do what i do..get some nylon tights, cut 'em so that it'll go around ur head, and then simply tie it on ur head..yeah yeah..i'm a cheapskate..but hey, it works :)

OR..you can just get one of the flaps of the hijab and pin it to the side of ur head somewhere :)

hope i make sense

I am a Mom. Here is a little trick I just recently tried.

Instead of a cap under the silk scarf- try a cotton cloth diaper.- One of the old fashioned kind that you can fold like a bandana.

It is great for hot days, working out in gyms- as it will absorb the sweat! It will also help anchor a large pin!
