I Fell

Today I was walking home from taking my son to school. It was a beautiful morning with a fresh dusting of white powdery snow.

I was thinking of this message board and of TQ's post about her car accident and the Kalima. I was pondering death and thinking about how we really don't know when we are going to die. I was repeating the Kaliema over and over in my head.

The crossing guard stopped the traffic and I began to cross the very busy street.

It happened all at once, all of a sudden I had wiped out. The crossing guard had already tuned back and didn't see it happening-

I tried to get up but couldn't. My knees and feet had gotten all tangled up in my coat. I tired in vain to break free of my clothes- to no avail!

All of a sudden I heard a woosh- a car go by. Then another- and another. Did they not see me? I was still a good three feet in the street away from the curb.

I am not a small woman- in fact pretty large. I could probaably put a dent in their car! My back was to them.- My coat could be of a man or woman- I could have been old or young-  they were just passing by me.

No one stopping... it was unbelievable. I would have to say at least 6 cars went by- or rather around me.

Al-humdullillah, the lady, the crossing guard was helping on the other street, noticed and yelled- at the same time I actually freed my legs and got up.

I wonder why they did not stop. Do you think it was my scarf?

Back to the kaleema thoughts- My mom and I were born the same day, she died at 42. I am 42 today and it is the eve of my Mom's death.

Kind of weird. She died when she least expected it. Today I seemed close to death. I am just so grateful that I am Muslim and the words of my shahadah were on my tongue.

Kathy , Alhamdullah you are safe. I am suprised that how could the other cars didnt stop - I know in the morning  everybody is in a rush, but still usually people would stop if they see somebody on the road.....  But the important part is you are safe, Alhamdullah.

What about your son ? Was he with you ?  I hope he is fine.

You guys are all so sweet- to ask after my boy.

Al-humdullillah, he was at school- I had dropped him off and was walking back.

Me- I am a little bruised- , but more angry that they didn't stop. I am sure hoping it wasn't because of the scarf.

Bismillah,
Assalamu alaikum sis
What an experience!! Subhan Allah that you were thinking about tq's experience and saying the shahaada right then! May Allah allow you to say it when it's time for you to meet him.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't because of your scarf that the people didn't stop.  They were probably afraid of braking and havign someone run into them from behind, and they probably didn't see it to be as dangerous as  you did.
