salam alaikum,
does any sister here know any good home remedy (something natural) for cramps? i've tried raspberry tea and it doesn't help all that much. i can't take midol because i'm allergic to ibuprofen and the only thing i've found that helps are 4 tylenols taken at once. hot baths help, but i have a baby, school, and other things that keep me from dropping everything when my cramps get really bad. maybe i should call my doctor, but my cramps just get so horrible and i'd like to find something natural instead of medicine. thanks! :)
wassalam,

Try drinking a lot of water, and do rigourous exercise, it usually looses mucles up, and the crapms should fade. But thats for me, a man, i dont know if that would work for a woman.

Since, the cramping is from the uterous-( something a man does not have), there are various things you can try.

1. Heating pad
2. Laying on your belly
3. Vitamin B really helps- especially #12- take for a good week before your period starts.
4. Alot of roughage will loosen up stools- less pressure from that area, eat small meals.
5. There are medicines that are ibuprohen free- check with the doc/pharmasist. Asprin may work.
6. Crunches do work- but who wants to do them then?
7. Caffene has been known to cause problems
8. Minerals help too- Potassium (bananas) calcium and magnesium.

he he :) nice rebuttal Kathy  :)

Honey  in warm milks is really good as well. But I think just your overall diet has an effect on pains and cramps.

PMS
Studies have shown that nutritional factors can influence the severity of symptoms associated with Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). Foods high in calcium, magnesium, vitamin B6, vitamin E, and zinc may alleviate PMS-induced depression, breast tenderness, moodiness, headaches, abdominal cramping, and insomnia.

Actually Sr. Kathy, aspirin is known to increase blood flow (plz excuse me for saying this, i didn't know how else to word it)
Like Sr. Kathy said, it works to lay on your belly, or to just take a little rest.

May Allah (SWT) give you strength and patience. Ameen.

Salam,

For cramps Ginger tea works..but you must use the real stuff..the powder is not all that great..just boil a chunk of ginger root in water...and drink the water..It really works for me.

from a passed on cramps tip from one of my teachers, I've discovered that calcium tablets work very well (aside from my 3 motrin, 3 alieve. j/k ;) I probably get the worst cramps in history (intense pain, leg cramps, vomiting, hot/cold flashes..) so I decided to really learn what my body is doin to me. In a natual medicine book (I have like 4 or 5) I learned that cramps are obviously caused by hormones being released causing the uterus to contract. The book suggest herbal remedies ( you can get them at a local health foods store) such as cramp bark, which is basically a special kinda of bark that slows the contractions of the uterus down. I have a bag of it in my kitchen, and what you do with it is boil it in water to make a concentrated tea, steep it, and you can add honey to it because it is a little bitter. From experience, it works great. Also, gotta have the heating pad. Doctors suggest exercizing (?? yeah right!) to increase blood flow and all that. (make sure you also drink something, preferably water so that you're at least hydrated) personally, I tried excercizing one day..man, you get tired, and when you stop?..mine become 3X worse..

but of course you may not get them that bad. so I would say just stick to calcium tablets, water, heating pad, nice coumfy bed or chair for your back..all that ok, I hope that helped.
ps. tylenol is like poppin sugar pills..it does absolutely nothin

Try taking some Aleve, then lying on your side with your knees tucked into your chest, with a heat pad on your stomach. Works for me.

Try some moderate exercise, making sure you take all the normal precautions(keeping hydrated, not overly straining any muscles) and I've tried aerobics, it helps.

It is my understanding that asprin does not increase the amount of blood lining, in the uterous, that is shedding.
