As you know we have started a dawah center.

We are looking for a catchy name for our youth group -in English or in Arabic.

Something suitable for correspondance as well as t-shirts.

I have seen the creative juices flowing on this board- ---

Islam, my final answer.

Who wants to be a Mumin?

YMCA  (Young Muslims Club of America) [NOTE: On the plus side, there is even a little song the members can sing, let me know if you want the wording.]

:) No, surely Brother Hanif, our dear Bhai Arshad is a John Travolta-Saturday Night Fever fan. Donned in his medallion, brute aftershave and flared polyester pants he does his 'thing' to the funky disco beat every Saturday night.

Since you are "welcoming" people to the fold of Islam, how about
Ahlan Wa Sahlan
meaning WELCOME[sub]Got that idea from the name of the pre-school my daughter attended :-)[/sub]

or
Bismilla

hang on

"al-fateha" is a name adopted by a group of gays in north america
so, um... you don't want to associate (also "khush" -- you don't want to be associated with "khush" -- translate that literally into english from urdu/hindi if you don't get it...)

beside that, you can have "brothers only" dancing and "sisters only" dancing...

j/k

how bout
"got wudu?"
(if you seriously want to take that up you'd have to consult with islamica cuz they're the ones who started it originally -- i've used it for a site of my own...)

:P

assalaamu alaikum

How about a name which isn't overtly Islamic. That way you may even attract non-Muslim kids (i don't know if thats what you want) but may be a way to introduce some young people to Islam.

Assalaamu 'alaikum, Kathy -
Not sure if I'm too late (you probably already have a name by now), but I was trying to find an article in Al-Jumua'h magazine that mentioned the names of some "corner" da'wah centers started up by a Caliph in some part of the world (can't remember the details!).  They all started with "zawaya" or "zawiya" (corner); just saw the word mentioned in a post by Amal (I think).  Maybe she can better elaborate on the correct transliteration, but that's my pick, if I had the choice.

:)

May Allah reward you for your efforts and bring more people into Islam at the Dawah Center!

a side comment... so what if a certain group takes that name!!! al fatiha is the name of OUR SURAH from OUR QURAN.. we should not let anyone else take it and reserve it for their own haram (according to all scholars of islam) activities..! just call them 'that group' and leave the name fatiha pure. i think the group should use al-fatiha and dislodge that wrong association in people's minds!!

how 'bout

Young MINDs: Young Muslim Independen Network of Dawa

If you call your dawa centre MINDs, then the youth chapter can be called Young MINDs.

Or the youth group can be called:

Arabic Name
-Al-Bara3em (i.e. the buds)

English Names
-The anti-phase (< -- a physicists inside joke)
-Muslim Youth Inc.
-Next Sage
