Hania's (latest) signature says:
"One learned man is harder on the devil than a thousand ignorant worshippers."
Why do you think that's true?

:)

P.S. Me asking the question doesn't necessarily mean I know the correct answer :)
Why do you think that's true?
Personally, I think it's true *only* if the learned man fears God. That way, no matter what Saytan whispers to him, he will be able to combat Saytan with his ilm and taqwah.   But ALL those ignorant worshippers have no tools to fight Saytan.  No matter what he calls them to they will most likely fall into his trap, after all they are ignorant.  Soooo, in conclusion Saytan has to work SO much harder on the learned man (if he fears God) than all those ignorant worshippers.  Just my thoughts...

Because that was taught to us by the ever truthful Prophet [saw].

Assalamu 'Alaikum,

This is why it is true:

Abu Umamah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "The superiority of the learned over the devout worshipper is like my superiority over the most inferior amongst you (in good deeds).'' He went on to say, "Allah, His angels, the dwellers of the heaven and the earth, and even the ant in its hole and the fish (in water) supplicate in favour of those who teach people knowledge.''
[At-Tirmidhi].

Commentary: `Alim (learned person) here means scholar of the Qur'an and Hadith, who adheres to Faraid and Sunnah and remains busy in learning and imparting knowledge. `Abid (devout worshipper) is one who spends most of his time in the worship of Allah. The benefit of his voluntary prayer and remembrance of Allah is restricted to his own self while the benefit of knowledge of the scholar reaches others also. Hence, of the two, the latter is far superior.

Riyad-us-Saliheen, Book Twelve: Book of Knowledge, Chapter 241, Hadith No. 1387.

Taueeya, that's cheating :)  I asked why *you* thought it was true :)

Anyway, alhamdulillah.  Nice comment in Riyadhus Saliheen.

Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah.
