As Salaamu Alaikum Wr Wb

Alright, I have a slight problem. My Mother's going to leave for a few weeks to go visit family a lotta miles away. Which means that I'm left home to play Maid, Cook, and Mommy to my two little brothers and Father. lol The cleaning and babysitting part I can handle, Insha'Allah. It's just that the cooking part is well.. AHEM I seem to be very, very lacking in that aspect. A few things I can handle but I don't know if I truly can. =/ Does anyone have any *easy* cooking websites? With very detailed directions?? lol. I'm seriously a hopeless cause. I burn myself boiling water for heavens sake. ((almost blushing)) I wont even go into the time when I put the oven on Broil instead of Bake. hehe. So insha'Allah any advice, tips, or just plain laughter and backup would really really be appreciated =) Take care everyone, be good, remain chaste, and please do remember the less fortuante in your Duas,Insha'Allah.

Mince Meat :) You can do so many things with it and its so easy to cook :) Fry onions, buy a sauce (from the supermarket) and mix together ;) Make a shepards pie (with packet mix from supermarket :)) or chlli concarni (again packet mix :)) but buy kidney beans.

or try:
International House of Kabob

lots of yummy stuff in there :D

Since you are a beginner why not get some good frozen pizzas?  Just get the cheese ones and add some veggies and tuna.  Another thought is to get spaghetti sauce already made.  Hunts is pretty good and cheap. You just need to add some spices to the sauce and cook some spaghetti and make a salad.  To make garlic bread melt some butter and add garlic power.  Cut the french bread in slices and spread the butter mixture on it.  Wrap in aluminum foil and bake at 400 degrees for about 10- 15 minutes.  Yes, I do know how to cook, but since you are just beginning I thought that we should start off simple.  ;)

Hehe. Thanks for the advice. I've tried frozen pizza and everything but each time I attempt to make it something goes wrong! lol Little thigns like my forgetting to turn the oven on, turning the knob on broil instead of bake, not remember to put the grease on the pan, burning myself even if I put gloves on! =( lool I'm really a sad case. Hopefully it'll all get better with practice. Dozens of hours worth of practice, Insha'Allah. :) Any detailed cooking sites btw??

[slm] bsm :-) This comes from someone who has "been there" :)...so follow carefully :)

We are gonna make some tomato chuntney..simple...really...HONEsT!! ;-D

You are going to need 1 small onion..[sub]chop this up finely, grate it or put it through a food processor..the choice is yours..[/sub]

Some RIPE tomatoes, [sub]about 6 medium ones or 4 large ones - grate it, blend it or cut it up really fine[/sub]

One or two green chillies and some FRESH Dhania / coriander

1.  Turn stove on medium heat

2.  Heat the pot, throw in the onions.  When the water from the onion is just about dissapearing, add some oil..about 4 tablespoons I would guess (your choice here :))

2.  Let the onions fry till transluscent

3.  Add the tomato you have so nicely grated :)

4.  To this add 2 tablespoon chilli powder, quarter tumeric powder and salt to taste (usually about half a teaspoon...your call again :))

5.  Let this cook on medium heat till spices dissapear into the tomato mixture.   Turn to low heat and let it cook till oil comes to top.

6.  Add dhania and green chillies

To this chutney, you can add :-

->  Boiled eggs [sub]or[/sub]
->  Baked beans
->  tinned fish
->  left over sausages etc. etc.

You can also add diced potatoes at step 4 to make "aloo-fry"

And here we have a simple start to many cooking endeavours, Insha Allah :) [slm]

one thing that my family of two working parents has discovered is Campbell's Supper Bakes. You can get the box at any store. They're also very easy and simpe to make. (We get the garlic and herb chicken one). All you need is like a stick of butter, boneless chicken, some kind of pasta (macaroni), and the rest of the seasoning is in the box. Just make sure you follow the directions precisely ;) One technique for your difficulties is first reading the directions over once, then follow each step, reviewing the directions over as you go on to each step. Oh, another really good meal is cajun catfish (found in the seafood section..but that's if you like fish) it's actually really tasty though. The fish is already seasoned and all you do is (I think) bake it in the oven. As a side dish, you could have rice or whatever. ok that's all, I hope I helped.

Roast Chiken is easy, as is chips.

Fried chiken, chicken burgers, Mashed potatoe.

Or you could eat out, or order takeaway!

I can sympathise with you here. I remember when I was sixteen my mother went on holidays to Egypt, leaving me to cook for two hungry brothers. We did okay. We ate a lot of chips(french fries) and things like chicken nuggets, hamburgers or roast chicken. these things are really easy to make. For the frozen stuff just bung it into the deep fat fryer, and to roast a chicken just stick it in the oven.
Don't sweat it about forgetting to turn the oven on! Try to remember to turn it on before you even start! Most recipes say "preheat the oven to.." Just keep cool and you'll be fine, Insha Allah, and your family will be dead impressed with you! And if not then order pizza!!! I'm sure your Dad can help you out too?
