| Assalaamu Alaikum A long time ago I recall hearing the name of a prophet that brought people back to life and healed people, but it wasn't Prophet Isa (pbuh). Does anybody know the name of the prophet who performed the same or similar miricles that Prophet Isa (pbuh) did? Please correct me if I am totally wrong. Thank you. |

| [slm] Not sure if this helps, but there are several stories in the Isra'iliyyat which speak of Prophets who revived the dead. These stories related by the Jews and Christians can neither be confirmed nor rejected by us, unless of course the Qur'an or hadith literature mentions something in contradiction to those reports. The Prophets Elijah and Elisha are both mentioned in the Old Testament to revive dead infants, Elijah in 1 Kings 17:22 and Elisha in 2 Kings 4:34. The Prophet Ezekiel is also reported in the book of Ezekiel, Chapter 37, to have brought back to life thousands of dead in a valley. In Surah Baqarah, ayah 243, Alah SWT says in meaning: [i]Did you not think of those who went forth from their homes in the thousands, fearing death? Allah said to them, "Die". And them He restored to life. Truly, Allah is full of bounty to mankind, but most men thank not.[/i] Some of the mufassireen have said that these people mentioned were from the Children of Israel who died in a valley and later a Prophet (either an unknown Prophet or perhaps Ezekiel) amongst them came by this valley and brought them back to life. This for example, is discussed in the tafsir of Ibn Kathir. However, it appears that this is based primarily on the Israi'liyyat, so this can be neither confirmed nor rejected.
