Eid: Every year the same story

Every year, there is the widespread confusion as to when Eid should be.  This time, the Saudis have announced that yaum al-arafah is this Thursday insha'Allah, making the first day of Eid Friday.  But, the Shura Council of North America (ISNA and the other organizations) have said that first day of Eid will be Saturday.  So inevitably, brothers in the masjid are divided.  Most of the Arab brothers are following Saudi and making salat al-eid on Friday followed by the animal slaughter.  Most of the Desis are following ISNA and praying on Saturday.

Aside from the fact that this is a blatant example of why and how the Ummah both locally and globally is split, I just wonder why this saga repeats itself year after year.  Our Imam is of the opinion that one should follow local moonsighting, however this year the moon was not visible.  Also, if the Saudis have announced day of arafah to be Thursday, wouldn't it be logical for the first day of Eid to be Friday for the whole world?

So basically, me and some other brothers agreed to go on Friday for the animal slaughter and pray on Saturday, but now I'm having second thoughts.  Doesn't the slaughter come after salat al-eid?  Is it permissible to pray Eid both days?  (I don't think so) aarrrggghhhh!!!

I posted up a link to a site that has some excellent information on this subject, including the opinions of Sheikh Uthaimen, Chief Justice Taqi Usmani, and brother Suheil Lahrer.

wlm,

it is a tough thing rashid.. but i think the best way to think about it is that there are alot of differences of opinion in our deen and this is really a rahma (mercy) for people so we should take it as that.. the best thing to do is not let it divide us as muslims and just go with your local community or the people you hang out with...
