Introduction!

[slm]

Ok so I decided that I should write an introduction, since there seem to be many new  ;-)'s and  :-)'s here in the Madina!  Well I'm jannah, founder of jannah.:-Xrg !!  Started this website back in 95, while I was working in the computer rooms of my college drinking lots of [] and just hanging 8)ut.

It used to be a list of links of different stuff and a few articles that I would find on SRI and old islamic mailing lists. Then the list of links started to grow and :o, so I created the mamalist page for links, and while I was at it the :-)'s page.

From there the website just took  :Dff. Then I graduated and did my masters in Educational technology and had a job working at an online university type thing, and later on a job ::) a software company, so again had lots of time to build the website m ;D re!

Then in hmm around  99 I added a free message board link from insidetheweb and  bhal :)o ( ;-)) came on board to help with all the posts.

After about a year,  we had a great  :-[ , that is to create our own message board with more features and stuff.

For a long time I've had this idea of making my website into a minicity with litttle areas and names for different things, like a mosque, a store, shops etc. I even asked one artistic  ;-) to draw the city out for me but alas he didn't have the time  :'(  but then decided that this was the opportunity i was waiting for and used all the names and things to create a Madina like that of the Prophet [saw]'s.

So the Madinatul Muslimeen was created in 2:-*:-*:-*

The last year and a half have been a great j ;)urney,  we ;D, we :'( , sometimes :), sometimes :(, sometimes people got >:(, sometimes there were alot of ::) people who asked lots of ???'s , but alhamdulillah it was never b:Pring eh!

The last 4 months, I left the board to study in Damascus, Syria. Alhamdulillah I've returned just in time to help inaugurate this new board in 2 :-/ :-/ 2 on the eve of the new Hijrah year 1423.

May Allah increase us, all the Moderators, Admin and Citizens of this Madina, in Knowledge, Strength, Wisdom and Kindness.

May He increase us in Faith and Goodness, Jami'an and keep this site going only as long as it is of benefit to His Deen brought by Muhammad ibn Abdullah [saw]

Heck sis Jannah that mamalist was the first islamic site i ever visited and actually bookmarked :D I still remember it very well and even talked about it in my intro in the old forum ;)  I found it surfing in my university library computers while skipping lectures 8) on a lovely spring day ;D (yep I still remember) and now its been years I've been visiting this site. Back then there weren't many good sites around so I had to keep constantly refferring back to it. Whenever i go there that list brings back good memories of university and now i have some weird and wacky attachment to it... ::) :)
In fact its the only site i've been visiting for over 4 yrs or so and woaah has this place grown or what!!!! :-X

Awesome work!!!!

Asalaam alaikum,

I've known Jannah since 96, and remember when the board was famous throughtout the world for the mamalist, and the site was a good source for sister's information (still is).  I can also remember thinking to myself, wow, I've run into my first celebrity. :D

The website has grown a lot since then, Jannah always was changing things here and there, at one time I had designed a graphics design for the front of the website.

When the webboard came about I was really happy about that, because here was something I knew was going to be really beautiful.   I knew it was going to be run well, I knew people were going to be treated well, and I knew it was going to be a good source for knowledge, alhumdullilah.  And each time the board has been upgraded, it gets better and better, alhumdullilah.

Insha'Allah this board will continue to flourish and be a source of knowledge for all, and place for Muslims to come together, help each other and get to know one another.

Assalaamu alaikum,

I have known Jannah's site since early 1996, I think. Back then there weren't many Islamic sites on the web and this site always came up when I wanted to find something. I remember it was hosted on albany.edu servers :) However, back then I wasn't much into Islamic sites and visited the site infrequently. I became more regular with checking out Islamic sites from late 1998. Mid to Late 1999, I checked several message boards. Yuck! There was so much bad stuff thrown around on them. My preconceived idea that such board are no good were proven right. Then I kinda stumbled onto the jannah.org's message board (I wasn't a regular jannah.org visitor then) in early 2000. I lurked for about 2 months reading all the posts, back posts ( :o) and thought to myself, hmm, this board is different! It has now been almost 2 years that I have been posting on the board. I don't post frequently, but I like it that way (actually I know nothin :))

We moved from the old board to the Madinat Al-Muslimeen ver 1 in late 2000. I remember one of the complaints about the old board was the sometimes unislamic ads that popped up :) Cows and bhaloo were likely to be found in the same thread back then too! I also kinda remember Kashif’s first post on the first board :)

This board has since been a constant hang out for me, almost  24/7 ;) Alhamdulillah, I have learned a lot, it has helped keep my focus, and I have come to know some wonderful brothers and sisters through it.

This is kinda my jannah.org story.

Kudos to Sr. Jannah for her hard work and dedication. May Allah reward her for her efforts. May Allah continue to make this board a source of light for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Ameen.

Wasalaam.

Jannah's intro prompted a trip down memory lane.
My first encounter with the internet was in mid 1999. Back then the WWW to me was like a new toy in the hands of a three yr old. All I knew at the time was how to move the mouse and click on anything that changed colour when the cursor was on it. Just writing an email was an achievement. :-/
Then after a couple of months of random surfing, I "stumbled" on this pink and white board that seemed to talk about islam and muslims. Curiosity piqued (sp?), i began reading thread after thread. I even remember the first few posts I went thru were written by someone called Andrew describing how buddhism was similar to Islam!
I didn't really get hooked at that time coz I didn't have the net connection at home but since that pink and white one changed to the blue one I've been visiting almost everyday.
Even though I don't post as much, I've learnt a LOT from  the postings and members of this board.
Jazakllahi khairan katheeran ya ukhti Jannah as well as all those who contribute in making this a wonderful place to be.
:-*

hey I guess the title of this thread should be "The Jannah Story". Well even if it's not, then you're going to get mine now:

I first discovered Jannah.org around the start of 2001. It was the sisters' pages  that I loved. I'd spend ages browsing around in there. Then one day I clicked on the link to the message board. Without even reading one message I signed up straight away. I think I probably thought it was required before you can read anything.. I don't know...
Then I just launched off and posted. At the time I was still a bit here and there about Islam and converting. Due to the beautiful responses from the community, I had no further qualms about Islam, I opened my heart and became Muslim. And I've never looked back since.

I was looking forward to reaching my 1000th post..I had something like 680..but now I'll have to start all over again  :'(

Never mind, Insha Allah, we'll all learn through the process

I need U.B's e-mail address and yours too.

I gotta split... Fatimah is on my lap right now and she's not happy that I'm typing away... WRITE TO ME!!! :)

Mash-allah Sis Jannah, Welcome to the board

Well done, to the good work.

I found the Mamalist at Uni in the mids 90'swhile I was surfing away, and I thought hmm thats kinda kewl idea. At that point in time there weren't many Islamic sites, the mamalist stood out like a loving mamma.

Later on in life I was surfing again and I came across Bro Arshad page and I thought hey this dudes kewl man, I loved the poems and stuff. The reason why I'll always remember him is he had a poem on dancing and I thought why does a Bro have a poem on dancing but I was wrong, it was about something else, something deep http://members.cox.net/ameer1/dance.html

Then one day I came across the mamalist site again, memories of uni returned, yet things were polished, they stood out even more and lo and behold I read the messageboard.

The messageboard was kewl like muslims from all over the world with many thoughts, dreams and wishes yet in many ways functioning as one body. Just reading some of the posts got me hooked, wow kewl place I thougt. Then I clicked upon a couple of profiles, checked out their website and Allah be praised I came across bhaloo's again, memories flooding back.

And now, years down the line Sis Jannah and Bhaloo are a professional team with may people supporting them in their good work for deen. The board now even boasts indirectly a radio channel, masha-allah.

May Allah increase more in their success and in their rizq. And may the board continue to shine always. Ameen

Salaams

Hanif

p.s. Jannah and Faisal I'm still waiting on your web page on Damascus.

assalamu alaikum

I just discovered this thread - wow am I slow or what !  For me, I first knew about the jannah.org web site from a friend in 1999 I think? Neewayz, she emailed me the link to the sisters' page in jannah.org and said, "if you find one tell me". Of course, I was being thick as usual, or just too immersed im my studies, that I could not make sense of the whole message. I never asked her what she meant. But I thought the web site was cool. It took a couple of months for me to come back to that page and realize that there were matrimonial (sp?) links listed at the end - couple that to me and my friend being miserabley single at the time (ahem, we are both off the market by the way, me most recently, and she few years back), I figured what her earlier statement in the email meant.  Did I say that I am slow already?  :-/ Then I got hooked on the message board since its inception.  Mostly reading than posting.  Egad, I've been through 3 versions of the board now!  Yet, I still manage to keep a low profile in feeble attempts to curb addictive side effects  :-*  These new emoticons are not helping!! They are soooo cute.  Okay, that was my story. Who's next??

Take care,

I discovered jannah.org, well before when it was hosted on the uni back in my #islam irc days (circa 96). That's where I got to know most of the admins on this board.

yes masha Allah jannah.org has definatly grown and blossomed into something great. Sounds kinda funny eh, like im talking about a baby growing up hehe. It sort of is I guess.

jazaki Allahu khairan ukhti for all the great work you've done for the Muslim ummah with the webboard, webpage etc.

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

I have to admit I never knew the origins of the message board either. Its amazing what you guys have achieved in such a relatively short space of time.

As for my jannah.org story, I actually first came across the website in the spring of 1998 but it wasn't until late 2000 that I actually joined up.

The quality of the posts here and the amount you learn is amazing given that none of us are genuine scholars. We're just regular people living regular lives but , yet,  the experiences and knowledge we share on the board strengthens us and inshaAllah makes us better Muslims.

In real life it would be hard to meet so many people and get the insights that different people have, but on the board we get exactly that. We learn from other people's experiences and from their differing points of view.

But what I truly love about this board is that with its all its seriousness, it retains its sense of humour. That balance, in my opinion, is what truly creates the Madina atmosphere that we know and love. I mean where else can you have a heated discussion about Islamic schools and then post about how to cook salmon at the weekend? ;-)

As Br Arshad said:

[quote] Insha'Allah this board will continue to flourish and be a source of knowledge for all

asalaamu alaykum y'all,

hey my first day back at the board and it recognises me!  Didn't even have to enter a password, wow just like a homecoming! ;D

I guess I'm relatively new compared to some who've been associated since the mid-90's!  Wow talk about Madinah addiction!!

I think it was sometime last year when I came across www.jannah.org and the first thing I saw were all these butterflies flying out of the page and I was like  :o  "is this an Islamic site??"  I mean not in a bad way, I was seriously impressed...then I went into the other page which had flowers following the mouse pointer around and I played around for ages just waving the mouse pointer around the screen..... hey don't tell me the rest of you weren't impressed by the flowers!   :-*

Simple pleasures for simple minds I guess.

When I discovered the Madinah community I was seriously impressed.  The people here are amazing and an inspiration...  So shukran jazeelan Bhain-ji Jannah, may Allah reward you immensely for the work you have put into this.

Oh and thanks for the summer break...the time off was really good,  altho be on the lookout for an outbreak of Madinah Addiction as the Madinah deprived masses start loggin in again ;)
