Hajj PowerPoint

Insha Allah, I am going to give a speech in February to non- Muslim spiritual ladies, an inter faith group. Now for the life of me i can not figure out how they all hold on to their beliefs after listening to the Islamic viewpoint for over a year!

This year we are all sharing our holidays and i picked Eid-ul-Adha figuring I can go in for the gusto with all of Hajj's spiritual symbolisms.

I just recently discovered Powerpoint ( I know you are all laughing at this ole' lady), and am amazed at the presentations you can do!

So my goal is to learn it and make a presentation!, Insha Allah!

I am figuring about 12 slides.

What 11 pictures would you choose? Ones that would appeal to one otheose from the Abrahamian faiths....

Also any tips, advice, and warnings from those who have done power point before would be greatfully appreciated.

Well you could put pictures of the Kabaa and Masjid Al Shareef, I don't know what else you could put that would be appropriate. Maybe pictures of people doing tawaaf?

I also like the idea of photos of pilgrims making tawaf too. Sa'ie is good too, because of Hajar and Ishmael, may Allah be pleased with them.

Maybe some shots of Arafat, (in reference to the Day of Judgement) and maybe of the Makaam Ibrahim. I think some of the most powerful also are pictures of the Haram at night or just before dawn.

There is a beautiful picture of the haram at night here

I would suggest images of Muslims in their native lands, showing the diversity in dress, races, languages, etc.  And then images of the hajj showing them in ihram all dressed the same.

Power point is cool, just click and click  ;)

May Allah make it a successful presentation for you!

Others have already suggested great pictures. I would suggest that you layout each slide on a black background and in addition to the main image in the center, you can have small verses of the Quran (in English) pasted on the border. That way when you are talking about what's on the slide, the audience would also be reading the aayat.

I could help you with this if you like.

What do I need to do a power point demo?

Can you tell me the exact names  of the screen, projector?

I am trying to figure out the cost, but I have no idea what they are called. I typed screen on e-bay and came up with over 6000 hits.

When i typed in projector...I got some from $25 to $2000! :'(
PLeeeease make dua for me that I will be able to do this... I am so not wealthy! Yet, I have seen Allah swt make so many things, that at one time i could only dream of.... like the Dawah Center.

I have decided to go with the spiritual aspects of Hajj, following Ibrahim raa and Prophet Muhammad's  saw footsteps. I am thinking that the women are not going to care so much about how many of "this" or how long to do "that. "

I was thinking of putting the details in handouts.  Then expanding the demo for a Muslim presentation.

There is a really cool website out there which has satelite pictures of the Kaba, and it's sooo amazing,  :o i mean most people have seen the ground level photos, these are something different. Sorry i don't have the web address to hand  ::)  maybe someone out there has it.

as for the projector, i don't know about this, but i do know that if you have any blank light coloured wall or even a white board u can project images on to it.

Hope it goes well

Most schools/colleges have a projector. Why don't you see if you can borrow one for the presentation. You are on the parents board aren't you? Why don't you check out if you can borrow the projector? You may have to leave a cash deposit which they will return to you when you return the projector. After all we have to be careful of the terrorists..  :P

Seriously though, I am sure you can get your hands on the equipment for cheaper. An alternative would be to maybe buy a projector through the mosque. Then it would belong to the mosque/dawah center and could be used for other occasions too.

As mentioned before a white wall, or a white sheet hung on the wall will do to project your slides on Insha Allah.

I don't know anything about Powerpoint  :'( so no help there I'm afraid

Good Luck!!!!!!  :-*

To do a powerpoint demo you would require four essential things:

1. Microsoft Powerpoint;
2. A Projector
3. A screen.
4. A laptop or desktop computer available in the room you are doing the presentation.

If you don't have access to power point, you can try one of the free software around (although they may not be as intuitive to use as MS Powerpoint). If you can't borrow the projector, then you can rent one at:
http://www.rentquick.com/index.html

If there is a white wall in the room where you are going to do your presentation, then that should suffice as the screen although you can probably rent that as well.

Well sis you really don't need one of those fancy shmancy computer projectors, all you need is the good ol overheard projector.

You can get you powerpoint slides printed on overhead projector paper at Kinko's or your local photocopy shop. I know it will definatly be cheaper than paying up the deniro for a full fledged projector.

yeah i agree with albasha.. forget that fancyshamcy stuff :)  seirously tho those powerpoint projectors are maaaaaad expensive.. but everyone has an overhead projector hanging around...

there's also an attachment thingy that  you can hook up to your laptop that's like a screen and then you can put that screen on an overhead projector.. it's cheaper than a fullfledged powerpoint projector which can run in the thousands.

well to make you picture's animate in powerpoint you would:
1.Highlight the picture
2.Click on the Slide Show menu on top(alt-d)
3.Then either choose on of the preset animations(alt-d-p) or make your own custom animation(alt-d-m).

Couple of questions:

Jannah..inadvertently I used your line in my Hajj Presentation- 1000 Roads to Makkah! Ha Ha! Wonder if that was deeply ingrained in my mind...and another sister who was helping me..who happens to come to this site! I didn't notice until yesterday, as I was cruising your Hajj Site!

Are their any original thoughts anymore?

Needless to say I changed it to 7000 because Ali told me the earth was that wide!

Can I use your picture in my presentation? the one that says Road to Makkah and labbayk at the bottom?

2. When choosing pictures and copying them from sites they look good until I enlargen them... is there a trick to this? Which file types are better/ jpg or Gif?

It's ok I stole it from Michael Wolf's book 1000 Roads to Makkah :) Sure you can use the pic.  Usually 2 or 3 color images of graphics look good in .gif, photos with lots of colors look good in .jpg.  Whenever you enlarge an image from its original size it will degrade in quality. Nothing to be done about that unfortunately.

btw i forgot to tell you! I did receive a kabah bag. they are adorable. jazakiAllah khair :)

I am giving it this Sunday Insha Allah. I posted the speech in the Mecca section of this board. Check it out and see if there are any changes you think I should add.
