The Chief of Prayers for forgiveness?

[slm],

Does anyone know it? The English translation starts with (roughly) " O Allah you are my Lord, You created me and I'm your servant and I will keep my covenant and promise to you as much as I can. I seek refuge with You from all the evil I have done......."   I can't remember the rest!

I can't remember what book I was reading when it caught my eye, but I remember reading something like,  whoever recites it with firm faith during the day and dies before evening or recites it during the night and dies before day, will be of the people of Paradise.

JazakAllahu Khairun for any replies!

Here it is:

the hadith of Sayid al-Istighfar, the best way of seeking forgiveness, a Hadeeth in Bukhari where the prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam said:

"The master of (Or the best way to) seeking forgiveness is for the servant to say;

O Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, you are my Lord. There is nothing worthy of worship except you. You created me, and I am your slave, I try my best to fulfill your promise and the covenant. I seek refuge in you from the evil, which I have done. I admit to you, your favors upon me, and I admit to you my sins. So forgive me, verily none can forgive sins except you."

Let me know if you need the transliteration or arabic version  ;)

Allahumma anta rabbee laa ilaaha illa anta,
khalaqtanee wa ana 3abduka,
wa ana alaa aHdika wa wa3dika mastata3tu,
a-udhu bika min sharri ma sana3tu,
abuu-u laka bini3matika 3alayya,
wa abuu-u bi dhanbee,
faghfirlee fa innahu la yaghfiru adh-dhanbu illa anta

The Prophet (PBUH) then added:
‘If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of the Paradise.’"

bismillah..
assalamu alaikum

i always wondered about the correct way to say the above dua (and also there is another one for relief from calamaties and sadness).

in the second line in the arabic version "..khalaqtanee wa anaa 3abduk.."

in arabic, 3abd is a male slave.  the equivalent term for a female slave is ama.

should a women say "..."..khalaqtanee wa anaa amatuk.." ??

take care
wassalam alaikum

Assalamu alaikum
I've heard women say it that way, and I myself say it (amatuka) too.  It makes more sense to me, wallahu a'lam.
