[slm] I added the option to see avatars under the username. There's basically one rule.. keep it Islamic ie no pics of ppl. I also made the pics much smaller in size and the default to be 75 x 75. If anyone wants to add pics to the repository send them to me inshaAllah!! That way it won't be pulling off of other servers and won't make the board longer to load... This is a good site that has tons of nice pics: http://www.barbspics.com/post/posttopindex.html Jazakamullahu khairan! |

[slm] Just asking, why call it avatars? Avatars are the hindu names for "gods" coming in human form to earth (ie. a major shirk). I'm sure the word has no other context. That's disturbing to read, but is that the word the comp-sci world uses for them? |

Assalamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah, [quote]m sure the word has no other context.[/quote] I found this on dictionary.com that 'avatar' means: 1. The incarnation of a Hindu deity, especially Vishnu, in human or animal form. 2. An embodiment, as of a quality or concept; an archetype: [i]the very avatar of cunning. [/i] 3. A temporary manifestation or aspect of a continuing entity: [i]occultism in its present avatar. [/i] Wassalam. |

[slm] When I referred to no other context, I meant that it also denotes some sort of "emodiement". Its like saying NewYork is the "mecca" of business (astag'ferllah, but just an example). Avatar is used in its understanding as a hindu deity and all subsequent meanings are derived from that indication. its just sort of wierd as a former hindu to read that. |

slm, it just means picture on a msg board or chat or something.. here's a www definition: A graphic or pictorial representation of a user in a 3-D chat area. Usually chosen by each user, the avatar can be an animal or caricature. |

" Saudi Arabia is the Mecca of Muslims. " -- Bill Mohr Host of T.V. Show, Politically Incorrect (Now cancelled). The 'Avatar' and the 'New York is the Mecca of Business' examples reminded me of the the above quote, I was watching the show one night and the five of the them were talking about Makkah. I think of all the other Arabic orgin words that are now in many other Languages, Algebra, Cheque/Check (al-Sakk, invented by Umar, R.A.), Alchemy (Chemistry), Zero (Sifr), and on and on and on.... I think that when non-muslims use the words 'something something is the Mecca of something-else' , It's actually a conscious acknowledgement that Makkah is unique. That Makkah is the true qiblah and draws millions of believers to it annually and otherwise. I mean, we don't all go out and say, 'Hey, New York is the Rome of Business.' or 'New York is the Ganges River of Business' . 'Jannah.org is the Mecca of Muslims-Online-who-are-suffering-PRSD[sup]*[/sup]'. What Think? [sub]* PRSD: Post Ramadan Stress Disorder.[/sub] |

[/quote] hm... can we get the functionality of recieving an email or IM whenever our Name/Username is used in some thread. The email or IM should include the link of the thread and also the user who posted ?? Plus, could it be that whenever a user posts a message the system verifies that whether or not the word "Fear Allah" is used in the title, if yes then an alert "oops, Are you sure ?" should be displayed .... aight aight .. j/k :P ... But how about the first one it'll be of quite some help, no ? [wlm] wow that would take some coding... it would have to sift through every post posted.. go thru all the words, check to see if the word is a username and if it is then send a mail to the person.. and ppl are posting here all the time.. is it worth all the effort?? just send a private message i think or use the notify feature for a thread u are watching. as for "Fear Allah" i think wherever it appears as a phrase it should be changed to "Tell me to fear Allah" :P |
