Birth Weight

Ali was 10lbs,5 oz.!
Me a meer 6lbs! (this must be the reason I can't win any Madinat Games!)

Just another reason to take care of yourselves and eat properly while "in the family way":
Your Birth Weight Signals WHAT?

The more a baby weighs at birth and the higher that child's social class, the smarter that infant will be as a child and adult. Researchers in Great Britain studied 10,845 males and females who were born between March 3 and March 9, 1958 in England, Scotland, and Wales. At ages 7, 11, 16, and 33 years, the study participants were given cognitive tests and their educational achievements were noted.

The results: Both improved significantly with increasing birth weight.

Writing in the British Medical Journal, the researchers said that the proportion of men with higher educational qualifications increased from 26 percent in the lowest birth weight group (5.5 pounds or less) to 34 percent in the heaviest birth weight group (8.8 pounds or more). For women, just 17 percent in the low birth weight group had the highest educational achievements, compared with 28 percent of those with the heaviest birth weights.

But social background at birth also played an important role, especially for math scores. The children born into the highest social class had significantly higher scores than those born in the lowest social class. In addition, the association between a child's math score and his or her social class seemed to strengthen with age, while the association with birth weight remained similar with age.
Assalamu alaikum
Woah!  10 pounds!!! How did you do it!!! Gulp!  :o  So THAT's why he's so smart ma sha Allah   :)
I'm kinda worried about my baby's birth weight.  Do you know if it has anything to do with how big your belly gets?  If I wear baggy clothes I can still pass for not pregnant, and I'm almost into my 6th month.  I wear maternity clothes to look pregnant (u get more respect ;) ) I'm a little worried that my baby will be tiny  :'(

With the help of Allah swt!!
Do you know if it has anything to do with how big your belly gets?
No, absolutely not. Women with good muscle tone do not show as much as us flabbers.

If you are under doctors care, she keeps pretty close tabs on your weight gain and can tell alot when they do the sonograms.

Most babies start major weight gaining in the last 2 months.

:-*I chuckled a little about you already being worried.. worries of a mother... it is only the beginning! ;)

Sis M.F. -- You probably have a small placenta. I believe the size of your belly doesn't determine the size of the fetus. Also, this is probably just a wives tale but they say if a woman is having a boy, he sits sideways and the belly seems flatter but wider. The girl on the other hand bulges outward, wa- Allahu- A'lam.

Ha Ha! and i have heard just the opposite!

If the baby is "all up front" it is a boy!

For the sake of modesty, I hope no one asks MF how her belly is!

You're a twin sis Sabr! Ma sha'a allah.  So am I.  (and I weighed only 3lbs 1oz. when I was born, and then lost nearly a third of my weight! --  My sister was home from the hospital a good month and a half before I was).

 :-* LOL What a fun topic  :-*

Don't worry M.F. as you know I am PG too and SubhanAllah InshaAllah things will be fine.....Here some advice taken straight from my Fav Book!!

What to Expect When your Expecting~Page. 219
Depending on your size, your shape, the amount of weight you gained, and the position of your uterus, you may be carrying  higher, lower, bigger, smaller, or more compactly.... Great book for worriers like us!!

And for the record I was 6 lbs born a premie, and you should see me now LOL! I am a big girl......
Alhumdulilah I am showing really well and I have been feeling the baby move for a month and I just entered my 5th month (reason for this could be one of two things~

1. Because I had a baby before and therefore you show sooner sometimes
and you know what the babies movement feels like...............

Or

2. I could be having twins (my hubby's wish!  ;D) Whatever Allah gives us I will be happy w/ of course, I am going for my first ultrasound in a few weeks InshaAllah........
I  let ya'll know what happened

And btw I have lost 14lbs yes LOST! I lost 17lbs when I was PG with my first son, I gained it back + 5 lbs which I lost when I delivered him and lost a few pounds extra......

And there is nothing wrong with me, I am eating good (better choices, don't mean I don't pig out often on junk LOL) My doc (which is the same doc from my last pgcy) says I am healthy and fine, and too keep on losing weight but to make sure I am eating good and not starving myself......
I am already overweight I don't need to gain more!!

So don't worry and if you do (Like me  ;) ) then buy that book; its great! I call it my
'pregnancy symptoms/fears dictionary'...........

Take care everyone
Your Sister

10LB all i can say is ALHAMDULILLAH  :o
wowwwwww...how do ppl know this kinda stuff?
As for knowing if it is a girl or a boy, i used to have a girl in my school who could by looking tell straight away if it was a boy or girl and i mean thru clothes ??? and she was abt 99% accurate too........
but these days i guess with ultrasounds u can see on the screen (ALLAH WILLING of course)

any way i have to go now,

In sha ALLAH Sr MF ur baby will be healthy and well.
