NOTE The following: I can not confirm receipt of your answer. If you want, when you send your answer add a comma and your own username that way you will send the answer to yourself as well. Do not send just a destination. Everyone who sent "Jerusalem" is WRONG that's not what the question asked. It's wayyyy too easy to ask for just a destination sorry ;) Apparently people are not consulting with their partners. Part of this game was for people to get to know each other as well and coordinate together and have fun and stuff!! So I'll accept the first answer from either of the contestants.. right or wrong. ahluqman (No subject) on: Jan 1st, 2003, 3:03am As Salaamu Alaikum, Phil It is 3:10 AM Jan 1, 2003 Eastern Standard Time and ahluqman and peace are in Jerusalem standing at the entrance to the Dome of the Rock, looking at Surah 17 Al Isra on the outside frieze of the third holiest place in Islam. Many of the Prophet's Companions travelled to worship at the blessed spot to which Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was brought by night and from which he ascended through the heavens to his Lord. According to the authenticated tradition of the Prophet, travel for the sake of worship is undertaken to only three mosques; the Sacred Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, and the Furthest Mosque in Jerusalem. In 685AD the Umayyad Khalif, 'Abdul Malik ibn Marwan, commenced work on the Dome of the Rock. Essentially unchanged for more than thirteen centuries, the Dome of the Rock remains one of the world's most beautiful and enduring architectural treasures. The gold dome stretches 20 metres across the Noble Rock, rising to an apex more than 35 metres above it. The Qur'anic verse 'Ya Sin' is inscribed across the top in the dazzling tile work commissioned in the 16th century by Suleiman the Magnificent. For Allah Surely Accomplish his purpose. Verily for all things Allah appointed a due proportion. Surah Al Talaq (65), verses 2-3 ******************************************************************************* Abu_Hamza Amazing Race, Destination 1 on: Jan 5th, 2003, 5:04pm [slm] Considering the psychie of the riddler, which itself is the biggest riddle of all (:p), the answer to the riddle must be ... Israa' (chapter 17 of the Qur'an). The riddle is apparently talking about Masjid al-Aqsa, for its land is sacred, and "so may be the rock" (referring to the rock inside the Dome of the Rock from which the Prophet - Peace Be Upon Him - ascended to the 7 heavens). So the riddle is definitely about Masjid al-Aqsa (or Jerusalem, the city wherein the Masjid is located). However the riddler, because of her twisted psychie [img]http://www.jannah.org/board/images/tongue.gif[/img] , is really interested in the surah [chapter] of the Qur'an which talks about the journey for which Masjid al-Aqsa is famous - the Night Journey of the Prophet (saw). And that surah is Surah al-Israa'. So that is our final answer. - The Texan Duo (Abu Hamza & Tesseract) [img]http://www.jannah.org/board/images/cool.gif[/img] [img]http://www.jannah.org/board/images/cool.gif[/img] ******************************************************************************* Road2Jannah (No subject) on: Jan 6th, 2003, 1:34pm [slm] hey how r ya!! i just wanted to let u know me and spiritualjihad r in for the game!!! i hope this is where u send to inorder to be in the game! if not then i apologise [slm] [img]http://www.jannah.org/board/images/sister.gif[/img] ******************************************************************************* Road2Jannah assaalamualikum on: Jan 6th, 2003, 11:04pm [slm] inshallah here is our final answer me and spiritualjihad final answer= surat 17 Al-Isra ******************************************************************************* siddiqui Re: #1 on: Jan 7th, 2003, 12:28pm [slm] The place Masjid ul Aqsa (in baitul muqaddas) - The end of the Isra and begining of Miraaj for the prophet [img]http://www.jannah.org/board/images/saw.gif[/img] beautifully described in Surah 17 - Al Isra' THE NIGHT JOURNEY [wlm] " I vacillate from being sadly happy to being gladly unhappy " ******************************************************************************* Traveler ReconTeam Uthmaan and Traveler on: Jan 7th, 2003, 5:40pm [slm] Sorry to bother you again, but if you've recently checked out the entries page you'll find out that I and uthmaan have just officially entered the game. [slm] I am confused...you accepted both Surah Yaseen and Surah Isra as the correct answers??? I thought Surah Yasin was the one actually inscribed, and Surah Isra simply talks about the Journey itself? Also who received the bonus point? Sis, Maliha :-) [wlm] |

[slm] Why did you accept both answers? Surah Israa was revealed there not surah Ya'sin. Dude, deduct a point from all the Surah Ya'sin people. From Madudi's intro to the surahs, for surah Yasin, he said" A study of the style shows that it was either sent down during the last stage of the middle Makkan period, or it is one of those Surahs, which were sent down during the last stage of the Holy Prophet's stay at Makkah. and for surah Israa it says: The very first verse indicates that this Surah was revealed on the occasion of Miraj (Ascension). According to the Traditions and books on the life of the Holy Prophet, this event happened one year before Hijrah. Thus, this Surah is one of those which were revealed in the last stage of Prophethood at Makkah. No cheating be fair. :) |

:) the riddle doesnt ask what was revealed there.. it asks what is written there. "The gold dome stretches 20 metres across the Noble Rock, rising to an apex more than 35 metres above it. The Qur'anic verse 'Ya Sin' is inscribed across the top in the dazzling tile work commissioned in the 16th century by Suleiman the Magnificent. " :P |

hmm...it seems some people interpreted "heaven's view" and "what chapter's written there" literally while others interpreted it metaphorically. for future references how are we supposed to interpret the riddles? or are both ways acceptable (as long as they make sense!) ? |

[slm] Exactly Truthfinder:) The riddle says Look up!!!! What Chapter is WRITTEN there? *not* Revealed there... I think you should deduct a point from all other answers except Surah Yasin! Which is actually inscribed there. No cheating is allowed :P [wlm] |

[slm] Wow you guys are ruthless :) There are numerous verses from many Surahs there. Surah Isra is there and so is Surah Yasin and so is Surah Ikhlas etc. The only complete surah is Ikhlas.. so if the riddle says what surah is written there... then again that could mean part of a surah and there are lots of those.. but the riddle also says "no need to travel for it's in the heart" that should have tipped ppl off to Yasin - which is well known to be the "heart" of the Quran. So I'm accepting any of those answers!!! Yasin was added later by the Sulimaniyes... Inscription on the Outer Face of the Octagonal Arcade S: In the name of God the Merciful, the Compassionate.
