assalaamu alaikum Does anyone here (pay attention Arabs) know of a soup called Hub soup? I've had it once before in KSA, and i'd like to know how to make it. If anyone would oblige with the recipe i'd be most grateful. jazakumullahu khair. Kashif Wa Salaam |

bismillah... assalamu alaikum never heard of it. might have another name. do you remember the ingredients? color or consistency? depending on how you pronounce "Hub", whoever fed you the soup might have had serious ulterior motives :P take care wassalamu alaikum |

assalaamu alaikum It was a yellowish colour. And i *think* it had wheat in it. Or was it barley? Kashif Wa Salaam |

[slm] This soup is very typical Saudi soup, and there is a fat-h on the Ha' (Í), :) it is made of wheat. I hope I translate this correctly: 1/2 kilo of meat with bones (usually lamb) one cup of grains (Habb) of ground wheat (washed) Two tomatoes Two Tablespoons of ghee (samn) One teaspoon whole black pepper One teaspoon cumin (unground) One teaspoon whole cardamon seeds Some cinnamon bark and lichen pieces ( I think that is what ÔÈøÉ is) Salt to taste Put the meat in a pot with water, (put the whole spices in a mesh bag and add) and bring it to a boil, then let it simmer for one half hour. After this add the ground wheat and continue to simmer the soup for another half an hour. Add the two whole tomatoes (not chopped), until they shrivel. Remove the tomatoes and mash them into a pulp then add them again to the soup. Add a bit of tomato paste (around two Tablespoons), the ghee, and salt and leave it simmering for 10 more minutes. Remove the spice bag before serving. |

[slm] Shabbah(t), with a shaddah on the ba' (Insh'a Allah the vowels are right). Shabat without the shaddah is dill, so don't put that in your soup. Insha' Allah your dictionary has it, mine doesn't. |
