AsalamAlayKum, Peace and e-Greetings be upon you. Back in The summer of 2001, I was driving in Northern California Specifically what everybody knows as Silicon Valley. There is NO 'Silicon Valley' on any map per se, The 'Valley' as everybody calls it over there, is made up of Several counties, namely, San Jose, Santa Clara, etc, with cities/towns/villages/hoods with names like Milpitas, Cupertino (pronounced Kew-Yu-per-tee-No), Los Gatos (pro. Los GatUSS) and driving around that july I noticed a 'VERMONT', but now, googling for it, I can't find it on the web...? I remember thinking that 'Vermont' I saw was pretty weird name to see in Northern Cali'. Vermont is a MAJOR street running through Los Angeles as well. It actually was the epicentre of the L.A. riots back in '92, but that's besides the point... So, Perhaps Your cousin is either gonna show up in the 'Valley, or in La La Land, aka Los Angeles. Anyone else? [sub]p.s. If your cousin does end up in VERMONT the STATE, could they please[/sub][sup] send everybody here on the Board a quart of Ben and Jerry's ice cream? Vermont is their corporate headquarters. Butterscotch ripple for me. Thanks[/sup] |

[wlm] If your cousin is indeed going to be in Silicon Valley, he/she might want to check out the folks at Zaytuna Institute in Hayward. I have NO idea where Vermont is, but if it's in that area, it would be worth it, even if it's a bit of a drive from where they will be living. www.zaytuna.org is the web address. I've been out there a few times, on the whole, it's nice, the weather is not too hot or cold, but it can be unpredictable. I was out there in the summer and very surprised to experience temps from around 90 F to down in the 50-60's range (in the typical American fashion, I have no idea what that is Celsius :)). One of the things I loved was the lack of humidity. Where I live becomes very humid in the summertime, it was wonderful without it. One absolutely wonderful thing while I was out there...I was able to take an excursion to see the Redwood forest...we went to a place not too far outside of San Fran...it was absolutely breathtaking. Subhanallah, 800 year old trees! Dunno if this is much help, but I hope so. Oh, and anyone visiting the area should travel to San Fran and take the Alcatraz tour! Muslimah |

siraj, I am from Los Angeles area and it is indeed the center of the universe. Lots to see and do if you like the outdoors and the weather is fine. Actually it is 85 today but with the breeze it makes it feel like 83. Yosemite, the redwoods, Giant sequoias, the beaches, Death Valley, and so many other places to see. But except for Vermont Ave, I don not know of any other Vermonts. Possibly could it have been Ventura? Another nice place next to the coast north of LA. Oh and we have the Lakers here also. and See's Candies. If anyone comes out to Calif you need to try See's Candies I sould have put this under comfort foods but it is another reason why California is the best place in the world. If you need any more info let me know. |

I have been to quite a few places and there are so so many beautiful places to be and see so I am not taking anything away from anywhere else in the world, maybe New Zealand would be close to the variety of things to see and do that are in Calif, but that is about it. Oh and Bro Hanif, yorkshire, i have had their pudding, Can you tell my why they call that pudding? anyways take care and |

Assalamu alaikum Having lived in Monterey and Pacific Grove, CA, I'd have to say that middle and northern California ARE some of the most beautiful places on earth. Even though I didn't get to see the Redwood forests :( Big Sur alone is enough for that nomination. I dunno about LA though :P The Valley (San Fernando not Silicon) is one of the most depressing places on earth to me. Plus you have to drive for 8 hours to get anywhere beautiful. Your cousin however will only be a few hours drive from some of the most beautiful places on earth :) |

[quote]I'd have to say that middle and northern California ARE some of the most beautiful places on earth.[/quote] I second that. Monterey is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. Carmel Beach, Big Sur, Pebble Beach and even the Aquarium are all really spectacular, Subhan'allah. Whenever anyone comes to visit me in San francisco, I always take them to see Monterey. |

with all that being said, Siraj, did you get enough information? and Bro, When are you going to come out to visit? and don't listen to MF about the valley. It is a great place to be and if you know where to look there are beautiful places within 15 minutes. |

I'm sure anywhere other where I am ( Albany, New York) is beautiful and I envy all who are in the nice warm weather!! Winters make me really depressed especially when there are unending snow storms and snow banks higher than my car......Ahh anyways :'( Emerald |
