I am bit confused over the movement we make while praying. I have noticed some do raise their hand upto the sholders at(position : ihdhidath-excuse the spelling- samiallahuliman hamida) and some dont. Could you please advise with the correct way how Prophet PBUH prayed, by explaining the movements only

As-salaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah,

As I may have mentioned in another thread in this folder, this isn't really a fiqh site/board, so I dunno. There are no scholars here (regularly, at least). May want to ask your local Imam/shaykh. A good reference is the book by Shaykh Albaani, "The Prophet's Prayer Described." Allahu'Alim, hope this helps.

[slm] Bro. Zameer. I had that same question last year. I looked it up in the book sis. Sofia mentioned by shaikh al-Albani. Here is what it says, ...

He ( the Prophet, saw) used to raise his hands when straightening up, in the ways described under the Opening Takbeer.
While standing, he would say, as previously mentioned,
1- Rabana wa laka-l hamd  OR
2- Rabana laka-l hamd
Sometimes, he would add the beginning of either of these:
3,4- Allahuma
(pg 48)

Anyways, that's just part of it. After reading it I added it to my salat. Hope it helps.

[slm]

I thought I should add that hanafis and shaf'iees do not do this, am not sure about the other 2 imams..  They have found hadiths in which this practise was later refuted/removed.  At the moment I myself am still trying to learn more about this, because I know some ppl who do do this, but yet I also know many more who don't.  And I have to say the the ones who don't do this have so  much knowlegde mash'Allaah and have been studying Islaam for yrs.

I wish there was a scholar we could ask various issues, but if truth be told, I don't trust many ppl when it comes to religion.  I think many ppl make up stuff to suit their own needs or twist/manipulate the truth.  I think it's better to seek advice from ppl who know more about the deen and have been studying it for yrs, and who have evidence based on the Qu'raan and Sunnah, and also we should find out more about what the four imams have said, because by following the method of relying on the Qur'ann and Sunnah, is exactly how they have come to arrive at their verdicts on matters.

P.s. NO offense to anyone, but am not sure if I could possibly have offended any1 anyway! :P ::) ;)

As-salaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah,

Just wanted to reiterate -- these types of fiqh points can't be answered here. It may have been a mistake on my part to point out any source, but the raising of the hands bit is pretty well researched by our scholars, so there *are* answers to this question. And the answers are not subjective (some "knowledgeabe people" do/don't do this, so that must be right - this is anecdotal and not sufficient evidence). We just have to find the sources, and the best thing is to find a knowledgeable shaykh/scholar who can point us in that direction. Allahu a'lim.
