question on wudu and fasting

salam u alaikum

i have some questions:

1) i have to put on my face a cream for curing acne in the morning and at night; i would like to know, if i do wudu and then, immediately after finishing wudu, i put the cream on my face, and THEN i go to pray, does it nullify the wudu and is the prayer valid?

2) can one use soap when he does wudu?

3) is it allright to fast twice a week as an habit?

4) is there any day of the week when it is forbidden (or not appropriate) to fast?

5) is it better to pray with bared feet or is it ok to wear sockets?

thank u

As-salaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah,

Sister, good questions - I've given it a stab, but why not ask your local Imam/shaykh these fiqh questions (since I don't think there are any scholars on this board)? You can also visit the Islam Q/A board, but I'd also recommend speaking with those who are qualified to give you fataawah (legal rulings), since there are certain circumstances that are not easily discernible via fatwah sites.

1) i have to put on my face a cream for curing acne in the morning and at night; i would like to know, if i do wudu and then, immediately after finishing wudu, i put the cream on my face, and THEN i go to pray, does it nullify the wudu and is the prayer valid?

As long as the cream is permeable, and doesn't contain some sort of najjas (impurity), it should be fine to make wudu' with it on and to pray with it on.

2) can one use soap when he does wudu?

Same idea, any soap can be used to cleanse, as long as it doesn't contain any najjas. I don't know, maybe you can use soap to wash your face while washing it 3x as part of wudu' (for example), or maybe not. To be on the safe side, you could cleanse with soap prior to starting wudu'.

3) is it allright to fast twice a week as an habit?

Yep, it's sunnah. The Prophet (s) used to pray on Mondays and Thursdays. He also suggested fasting 3 days a month to Abu Hurairah (the 13th, 14th and 15th of the lunar month). Voluntary fasting is definitely commendable, and subject to reward by Allah, insha'Allah.  :)

4) is there any day of the week when it is forbidden (or not appropriate) to fast?

Very few, like fasting only on Fridays, the days of 'Eid, the "doubtful days," etc.

5) is it better to pray with bared feet or is it ok to wear sockets?

For the most part (ie, according to the majority of the scholars), covering the feet with opaque socks or with a long enough jilbaab/skirt (that covers the feet) is required, since a women's feet are part of her awrah (part of the body that should be covered in public/in front of non-mahrem men). I believe Hanafee fiqh differs on this slightly (not sure of the details), but again, most scholars agree that covering the feet is better.

Allahu'Alim/God knows best. Again, ask your local Imam/shaykh in case I'm completely off/misinterpreted.

Minor correction: I believe the first line to response 3) should read " ...  The Prophet (s) used to fast on Mondays and Thursdays .."

Good eye, jazaakAllahu khair.

It's definitely, "used to fast on Mondays and Thursdays."
