Phil here... yes.....we're here LIVE at our first destination in the AMAZING RACE which is JERUSALEM !!!!  Yes... many people did make it to our first destination but didn't quite answer the riddle! But we'll be posting the rundown of the scores very soon :) So remember you must get to a destination to find the answer but the answer isn't always just the destination!!

Now As for Destination #2  here's your clue:
[/color][color=teal]

Travel to the land and city the Prophet [saw] refused to enter
with the reply that Paradise was not in this Dunya for him,
Find the students of knowledge, they live mostly in one neighborhood,
Go out for some pizza and ice cream, where's the best place in town again?

[/color]

PS. The BEST place is kind of subjective so let's go with the BIGGEST in town for pizza and ice cream ;)

Phil here reporting from the Pizza A&M restaurant in Rukn ad Deen, Dimashq, Syria.  There are teams running around all over the city asking for pizza and ice cream. No one has seen a deluge like this since '86 when the grand shaikh said ajwa dates were the best kind.....!! :)

This question certainly separated the cut&pasters from the truly enterprising :) I know it was a difficult one but I wanted something that would make it feel like a real race and something you couldn't really find on the internet...even though almost all of you tried that too!!

Qasiyoun is a huge mountain. It overlooks the city and it is from there the prophet [saw] conquered the city, but did not actually enter it. During this time, Dimashq was gardens, springs and beautiful fertile lands, basically an oasis. The prophet [saw] turned away and said that he did not want  the jannah in dunya, but wanted the one of the afterlife.

So... congrats to team Deen and Nur... granted half of Ottawa has been to Dimashq but good job in getting the answer so quickly;)

I was looking for pizza a&m which does have great pizza and the most amazing sundaes and is not only the best, but the ONLY pizza restaurant in Rukn-ad-Deen (corner of the deen) neighborhood in Damascus where most of the students live.

I gave credit for Qasyoun.. granted it's not a restaurant.. there are ppl up there in the summer that sell food stuff... maybe they have pizza? I dunno.

I also gave credit for Pizza Hut, which is really called Pizza Hat,  and alQariya  which is a great summer resort restaurant still in dimashq proper but kind of outside and souk hamadiya which is a souk... but they might have a pizza joint somewhere in there? i've seen ice cream though and Magic Food? never heard of that one i think it's a grocery store?? but ok as an answer

If you only had Dimashq correct you got 1/2 a point...

blease blay again :)

[wlm], Phil signing off now and getting on my private plane to ...... destination #3!!!

Our answer will be "Pizza Hat" (my Syrian friend swore that it was Hat not Hut) in Abu Al Azz, Damascus.

Answer to Race to Destination #2 from Abu Atheek and Sajida:

The land is Syria and the city is Damascus. The biggest in town is the Mount Kassioun or Qasiun or Qasiyun with its ridge providing the best place for cafes and food stands where you can enjoy your pizza and ice cream.

Proof adduced in support of our answer:

Prophet's (SAW) preference of Paradise over Dunya and Reference to Rome

Once Umar entered Muhammad's [saw] house and noticed the state of the furniture in it. Muhammad [saw] himself had only one sheet of cloth round him to cover the lower part of his body. There was one simple bed, with one pillow filled with nut fibre; on one side of the room was some barley and in one corner near his feet was an animal skin. There were some water-bag skins hanging beside his bed. Umar said that on seeing this tears came into his eyes. God's Messenger [saw] asked the reason for his tears. He replied, "O God's Messenger! [saw] Why shouldn't I cry! The strings of the bed have left marks on your body. This is a small room with all your furniture, I can see what there is. The Kaiser of Rome and Kisra of Persia enjoy luxurious living while you, God's Messenger [saw] , and the Chosen One, live like this." He said, "Ibn Khattab! Don't you like that they choose this world and we choose the Hereafter?".

Syria as part of Roman Empire

The Byzantine Empire, a mixture of Greek culture and Christianity began with the death of Theodosius, when Rome was divided between East and West. There are many ruins and dead cities in the North of Syria that reflect the strength and architectural genius of these Romans. Among the greatest is the Basilica of St Simeon the Stylite who stood atop a pillar to pray for 38 years. The Basilica was built around this pillar and it was a regular place for pilgrims. Justinian was by far the greatest of the Roman empires during this period, he won back a lot of the lost land of the former Roman empire and it was he who held off the Sassanians (from Persia) at Resafa and Halabiye. However in 632 the new Islamic faith fighters took over Syria from the Emperor Heraclius.

Damascus referred to as Paradise on earth

Damascus had been honored by God Most High, when it gave shelter to the Messiah and his mother Mariam (a.s) - on a hill having meadows and springs [The Holy Qur'an 23:50]. True to this description, the gardens and trees in the city offered its inhabitants a deep shade along with delicious water. Its rivulets twisted across the city and its flower gardens were pleasing to the eyes and gave life to the soul. The poets, who had written about this city earlier, had said, "If Paradise is on earth, then Damascus without a doubt is in it. If it is in the sky, then it vies with it and shares its glory."

Mount Kassioun as the location for cafes and reference to the first look at the "earthly paradise" by Prophet [saw]

A 1200-meter high mountain, Mount Kassioun overlooks Damascus with a powerful stance.

At the foot of the Mount, where the most ancient human settlements took place, are the quarters of Muhajirine, Salhiyeh, and Akrad. Houses in this area are interesting and beautiful. Many of them have small flowered balconies, and façades of carved and decorated wood.

Driving along the ridge is popular and there are a lot of cafes and food stands where you can sit out at the edge to have a drink, while nibbling at salted nuts and watermelon seeds.

This is where Cain slew Abel and also where the Prophet Muhammad   [saw] took his first look of the beautiful city of Damascus before turning away from "earthly paradise".

Is the order in which you showed the answers, the order in which you received them? In that case, we were just late by 1/2 a minute for the bonus point :)

Here's somethings that I learned in the course of getting to "Pizza Hat".

My Syrian friend tells me that there is a place alled "Al-Qadam" (lieterally "The footsteps") which is on the outskirts of Damascus and the point where the Prophet SAW turned back from (don't know if this fact or fiction).

Also there is supposed to be around there a place called "Ardh-Al-Ithnain" which Allah (SWT) has blessed so much that whatever you grow or rear (livestock, farms etc.), it is doubled! There is also supposed to be some kind of animal which is *only* found in that place!

Subhanallah. No wonder the Prophet (SAW) did not want to experience this "Paradise" on this earth.
