| umm are you sure that's really funny?? maybe i'm missing something cause it sounded offensive and full of insults about immigrants and stereotypes? kinda saying that pakistanis come and just take welfare and breed and then get more of their family to come over and milk the system more.. coming in turbans? ford trucks? sounds like someone changed American to Canadian cause I thought medicaid is only an american thing... |

| I think I am with Jannah on this one. I think we need to be very careful about perpetuating stereotypes. Even if it is a joke, and both the teller and the hearer "know better", it is possible that in the repeated telling, it begins to take on a truth of it's own. Besides, it isn't fair to immigrants who have done things the "right" way, who are very hard working, who are doing their best to provide the best they can for their children, but who, because of the stereotypes that abound, get lumped together and treated the same as those who abuse the system. (And even the motives and intentions of those who abuse the system aren't so easy to decipher.) Please, no offense intended! I know the post was intended to be a joke, and I know most of us know better than to generalize. But I wanted to add some words of caution. With Peace, Dawn |
