Welcome sister :)  Since these issues can quickly get out of control.. hopefully it won't become a fatwa fest and perhaps sisters who wear niqab can share their experiences of wearing it instead of us arguing about it beign right/wrong.

First of all let's talk about hijaab? What is Hijaab?

A common misunderstanding is that Hijaab is the triangular headpiece that one puts on ones head to cover their hair. You will find many Muslims even when explaining to non-muslims hijaab is to cover my hair.  This is incorrect.

Hijaab is defined as a barrier, or a covering, or a seperation.  It is the covering of the entire body, either including hands and face, or excluding hands and face (and well discuss these opinions inshallah after).

So Hijaab how should a Muslim woman dress.  I know many people jump at niqaab but many of us are not even doing the minimal properly.

Proper Hijaab:

(1) One's body should be covered completely with loose clothings, which do not describe the shape of the body, which are not transparent. Preferably the Jilbaab, which is a long covering can be worn as recommended by the majority of scholars.

(2) the color should be moderate, there is no specific color, but out of modesty we should try to stick to calm colors and nothing like shocking pink and the like.

(3) the hijaab is to be worn as a covering and not a form of beautification.  Many sisters want to be "moderate muslims" in which they cover but at same time be fitting into the society.  We are here to obey Allah and to dress properly.  We should be clean looking but however hijaab is not a form of beautification, it is a form of ibaadah. So no make-up with your hijab!

(4) The head part of the hijab which is usually seperate from the dress that one wheres should cover the chest of the women, and this is stressed in the verse about hijaab, that one should cover this particular area. So it would be incorrect to not cover that particular area.

So hijaab itself if applied properly could be suffice.

Now moving along to niqaab.  Niqaab is considered Mustahab (highly desirable) to do amongst many scholars like Shaykh Albani rahimahullah and amongst some of the other scholars it is considered Fard (obligatory) like Shaykh bin Baz and Shaykh al-Uthaymeen Rahimahullah.  (if you want the opinions of the scholars of the past i can provide that info with regards to the madhahibs, etc, please ask if you need that info.)

It was done by the Prophet's wives, the companions wives, and the women of the Tabee'een and the Salaf.

No doubt one cannot say that a person who wears niqaab is better than a person who does not wear niqaab. WHY? because Allah knows the intentions of the hearts and knows who is truly seeking his pleasure.

So we should not judge people on their outer appearance.  However, nevertheless it is a step closer to Allah, and it is a righteous step towards following the sunnah of the Prophet's wives.

I do recommend women to wear niqaab, and i do think it is an act if women did it would help them become closer to Allah, and it would also prevent them from committing many acts that they might commit if they do not cover.  As well its a protection for women so they will not be looked at in an indecent manner.  InshaAllah i will leave it at this.. there are many proofs and if anyone has questions related to this issue please post and i will bring you the evidences for niqaab from the Qur'an and Sunnah.

InshaAllah if i said anything wrong it is from myself, and all Good is from Allah alone.

wa salams
