| [slm] I am new to this website and I think it is much better than any of the other websites I have visited where the participants seem to go all out to defend Islam rather than expressing the beauty of Islam. I was born into a Christian family but so many of my ideals are Islamic. For more than 10years now I have had an interest in Islam and the more I find out about the way of life the more it justifies why I think the way I do sometimes. I have never read the Quran, I have only read what has been posted on the websites. I know many of you would think why don't I convert. I don't have a fellowship with other Muslims. I am Australian and currently I live in Tokyo Japan where there doesn't seem to be a centre for Muslim women. I would like to get to know the sisters here on this website to help me get to know Islam better. I am not married and feel a bit lonely sometimes because I wish I could be part of a verbal discussion about Islam. I have sent for a copy of the Quran and an english translation so I hope I can receive it soon but if anybody has any suggestions for me I will welcome it very much. | Dear Angelic, Welcome :) I'm glad you stumbled on this board :) It's certainly a beautiful place isn't it. So, what are you looking for? What would you like to learn? It certainly must feel lonely in Tokyo for someone looking for Muslims. I did find a website for an Islamic center there about 2 years ago when my husband was traveling there. It looked like a beautiful mosque, I wonder how active it is. I've read that a lot of Japanese-particularly women- are turning to Islam. Insha Allah if you're able to locate an Islamic center you're bound to find a few people to talk to. hmmm... | [slm] Thank you everybody for your replies. I have checked out some of the websites and I couldn`t believe how much information there is on the internet about Islam. I took a look at the centre in Tokyo and they seem to have an Arabic study group which unfortunately conflicts with my work hours. I know that nothing should get in the way of Allah but one of the things I want to learn is how to deal with anxieties I suffer as a result of my work. It is not easy for me to change occupations in a land where I am a foreigner and besides that I am on my own trying to make my own living. I work in a company where many play political games and only those that do seem to make their way to the top. It doesn`t bother me that I don`t play these games but my bossess are becoming judgemental of me about it and sometimes I feel so drained and teary eyed at my desk. Lately, when I have a few moments I open up a website and read something about Islam to help me get through the day. There is so much to know and I just don`t know where to start. | Walaikum Angelic :) I'm really glad you're interested in Islam. My brother does Dawah - invites Non-muslims to learn more about Islam, and he and these other brothers hand out books on Islam to people in downtown Toronto. If you want, I could mail some of them to you. I've actually started to read one of them, and it's quite a good read. If you're interested, just leave me an message! Take care *hugz* Ghetto :-* |
