This one is deep.. you have to think about every line:

From Ali Bin Abdul Aziz that he said:

"One year I was with Abu Obaid Al Qasim Bin Salam, when I reached Al Mawqif, at the corner of Jabal Al Rahma, I washed, and forgot my money there. When I reached Al Ma'thamain, Abu Obaid said to me: "I wish you bought us some butter and dates."
I left to buy that and remembered my money. I went back and found the money untouched, so I took it and went back. I had found the valley full of pigs and monkeys and other things that got me scared. When I came back they were still there. I Went to Abu Obaid before the morning, who asked me about the matter. I mentioned the monkeys and pigs, and he said:
"These are the sins of Adam's people, they left it and departed".

4. Al Shibli collected the secrets of Hajj in his book. Once he asked a by passer to the way of Hajj:
"Where to? "
"To do Hajj", he said
"Bring two sacks and fill them with mercy and press them!" Al Shibli said
So I left him, said the by passer, and when I came back from Hajj, Al Shibly asked:
"Have you done Hajj?"
"Yes", I said
"What did you do", he asked
"I washed, entered in "Ihram", prayed and offered my service", I said
"Did you complete Hajj?, he asked
"Yes", I said
"By so doing, did you break every contract that conflicts with this?", he asked
"No", I said
" So that was not a true Hajj", he said
"Did you take off your clothes", he asked
"Yes", I said
"Did you get rid of every deed of yours? ", he asked
" No", I said
"So you did not take off your clothes", he said, then asked:
"Did you wash",
"Yes", I said
"Did this free you of all your illnesses", he asked
"No", I said
"You did not wash then", he said, then asked:
"Did you offer your service (saying labbaik)?
"Yes", I said
"Did you get a response", he asked
"No", I said
"Then you did not offer it", he said, then asked
"Then did you enter the Holy Shrine?", he asked
"Yes", I said
"Did you believe that by so doing you had quit everything prohibited by Allah?", he asked
"No", I said
"Then you did not enter the Holy Shrine", he said, and asked:
"Then did you enter Makka"?
"Yes", I said
"Did a sign from Allah approach you as you approached Makka?", he asked
"No", I said
"Then you did not approach Makka", he said and then asked:
"Did you enter the Inviolable Mosque?"
"Yes", I said
"Did you approach it where you thought you would?", he asked
"No", I said
"You did not enter it then" he said, then asked:
"Did you see Al Ka'aba?"
"Yes", I said
"Did you see what you meant to see?", he asked
"No, I said
"You did not see Al Ka'aba", he said, then asked:
" Did you sprinkle sand three times and walk four times?", he asked
"Yes", I said
"Did you escape from this world, knowing that you abandoned it, and did you feel safe of what you escaped from by walking four times, so you wanted to thank Allah?", he asked
"No", I said
"You did not circuit then", he said, then asked:
"Did you touch the Stone?", he asked
"Yes", I said
"Woe unto you! It has been said that he who touches the Stone, by so doing has touched the truth and has become safe. Did you feel that safety?", he asked
"No", I said
"Did you pray twice after that?", he asked
"Yes", I said
"Did you stand upon the will of Allah, and did you feel your position and your purpose?", he asked
"No ", I said
"You did not pray", he said and asked:
"Did you go out to Safa and stay there?", he asked
"Yes", I said
"And what did you do", he asked
" I glorified Allah", I said
" Did you feel peace of mind as you went up Al Safa, and did the Universe diminish in your eye as you glorified Allah?", he asked
"No", I said
"You neither went up Al Safa nor glorified Allah, nor trot, nor proceeded", he said and then asked:
"Did you stand on Al Marwa?"
"Yes", I said
"Did you feel peace of mind while on Al Marwa? " he asked
"No", I said
"You did not stand on Al Marwa", he said, then asked:
"Did you go out to Muna?"
"Yes", I said
"Were you given what you wished?", he asked
" No ", I said
"You did not go out to Muna", he said, then asked:
"Did you enter Al Kheef Mosque?
"Yes", I said
"Did you feel a new fear as you entered Al Kheef Mosque?", he asked
" No", I said
"You did not enter it then", he said then asked:
"Did you go to Arafat and Al Masha'r Al Haram"?
"Yes", I said
"Did you mention Allah in a way that made you forget everything else?" he asked
"No", I said
"You did not go there then", he said, then asked:
"Did you feel what you answered and with what you addressed?"
"No", I said
"You did not go to Al Masha'r", he said, then asked:
"Did you sacrifice?"
"Yes", I said
"Did you kill your desires for the sake of faith?", he asked
"No", I said
"You did not sacrifice then', he said, then asked
"Did you throw stones?" he asked:
"Yes", I said
"Did you throw your ignorance and gain knowledge?", he asked
" No", I said
"You did not throw stones then", he said then asked
"Did you visit?"
"Yes", I said
"Did you discover the truth and feel the honour? The Prophet, may the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him said: "Those who complete Hajj or Umra are visitors of Allah and are hence honoured".
"No", I said
"You did not visit", he said, then asked
"Did you pledge for permission?"
"Yes", I said
"Did you pledge to eat Halal (licit)?" he asked
"No", I said
"Then you did not pledge for permission", he said, and then asked
"Did you say farewell?"
"Yes", I said
"Did it come from your inner soul?", he asked
"No", I said
"You never completed Hajj, and have to go back if you wish, and if you complete Hajj then do your best to make it the way I described.

This is a good post. Makes me want to cry. One of my favorite books is Ali Sharaiati's Hajj Reflections on Its Rituals.

If you like the above post, this book is a must read before you go to Hajj.

I have met too many people who have come back and will talk all about the actions of the rituals, the crowds and the litter. Few have come back and talk about the Inner re spiritual growth and submission they felt.
