[slm] Sorry not to answer your question about the vanillan... I avoid it, but do not remember why. However: I have found some cheap Vanilla without that dreaded alcohol! You can get it at Sam's Club. It is called Imitation Alcohol by Tone's. On their shelves is a couple different sizes of Tone's vanilla. The smaller bottles have alcohol in it. The large, bottom shelf one- 64 oz. - does not! Ok- ladies... we can bake again! |

[wlm] vanilla extract is not halal!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o I have always been using when i bake deserts, ect. I had no idea. I just used it today too.in cheescake.. I went back and looked after I read your post and may Allah (swt) forgive me :'( it has alcohol. ... I just never thought to look at ingrediants, we had always used it... :'( Does it matter if you leave the vanilla extract out when you bake now? ??? Does anyone else know of any other substitute? ??? |

[slm] Make vanilla sugar. This is Pearl's Receipi: [code]take one vanilla bean (available in the spice section of the grocery store) and put it into a closed glass jar with 1 pound of sugar. Let it sit for a week. After one week, you have "vanilla sugar". Use 1 tablespoon of vanilla sugar in place of 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract in recipes. [/code] |

[slm] Correct me if I'm wrong but that recipe seems a lot like the fermenting process which is how you get the alcohol in vanilla extract. The fresh vanilla bean doesn't taste like vanilla. To get the vanilla taste from the vanilla bean you need to ferment it....which also produces alcohol....what to do, what to do. [wlm] |
