[slm] I have been invited for dinner at a non-muslims house and I'm going to take some dessert. They are American.....which means they have no tastebuds. So nothing too crazy like chilled monkey brains or something. [wlm] |

Wa'alaikum Assalaam! Here are a fews suggestions which I have tried and they came out GREAT!! MashaAllah! :-/ :-/ :-/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jumbo Chocolate Chip Cookies~ (Note I really strongly recommend using REAL butter, not margarine) If you want to make smaller cookies, just use less dough. Ingredients: 3 1/4 cups flour 1 cup cake flour, (or 1 cup less 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour) 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 1/2 cups butter, (we recommend LAND O LAKES® Butter), softened 1 1/4 cups sugar 1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar 2 eggs 1 tablespoon imitation vanilla extract 1 package (12-oz.) NESTLÉ TOLL HOUSE Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels, or chunks Directions: PREHEAT oven to 375°F. COMBINE all-purpose flour, cake flour, baking powder and baking soda in a medium bowl. Combine butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl. Beat until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla extract. Beat until well mixed. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels. Drop dough by level ¼ cup measure 2 inches apart onto baking sheets. BAKE for 10 to 14 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely. Or No Bake Cheesecake Ingredients 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened 2 cups frozen whipped topping, thawed 1 cup white sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 box of strawberries (thinly sliced) (or/and find a strawberry drizzle) 1 (9 inch) prepared graham cracker crust Directions 1 Beat cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in Cool Whip. 2 Fill pie crust and top with sliced strawberries (if found stawberry drizzle put all over the top). Chill 1 to 2 hours or overnight before serving. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Your Sis n Islaam Jenna :-) |

as salaamu alaykum, talk about no tastebuds.. homegirl jannah here can't even eat our *mom's* cooking without complaining it's too hot ::) and I know americans who dig the chicken tikka masala.. so I think it's more about your masala tolerance level and not your location. :P wasalaam |

Americans may not have tastebuds but desi people have no concept of what it means to be "on time". "Yeah, I'll be there at 4:30." TRANSLATION: "I may roll in around by 6:00." |

[slm] I'm no expert chef but I can make mango lassi, which is more like a dessert drink, but it's still good and is filling enough to be a good dessert to any meal In Sha Allah. Here's a simple recipe for mango lassi: Mango Lassi (Serving Size: 4) Ingredients: 3 cups plain yogurt 1 cup milk 1 cup water 1 cup mango pulp 1/2 cup sugar In a pitcher, combine the yogurt, milk, water, pulp, and sugar. Whisk briskly until completely mixed. Chill. Makes 4 to 6 servings. This I've made before, and Ma Sha Allah it tastes alot better than the ones you buy from the Desi restaurants. It's real simple too. Another favorite dessert of mine, banana tempura, which is a Japanese dish that I've had before at Japanese restaurants. I've never made this before and don't know how. But it's basically deep-frying a whole peeled banana that's dipped in a tempura batter. But the crust is very light and crispy. The banana tempura is served hot, but with it, a scoop of ice cream (any flavor), a strawberry for garnish, and chocolate syrup splashed around (like the way they do it in those fancy dishes). ;D Fi Amanillah. |

[slm] Americans have great tastebuds... yours has been fried by your spices! Advice from an American, who knows what a palette cleanser is: A liquid dessert? na, not unless you know they like to try new stuff. Ps... A woman never considers anything with Yogurt... a dessert. Americans love chocolate... If it has chocolate in it you will be a hit. Also what ever has farina, semolina, just reminds us of Cream of Wheat... |

salaams as an American (sort of) with taste buds I can tell you that one of my favorite desi desserts is that vermicelli pudding (I have no idea what it's called), you know where they first fry the vermicelli in butter then cook it in milk with cardamom and all that good stuff (right?). I also like Halva. I made it with cocunut once but I like the carrot one too. But it takes like an hour or two to cook right? Or you can try basboosa which is a semolina cake with lots of rose-watery syrup poured over it. I don't have the recipe but I'm sure you can find it online. I'm just telling you what an american might appreciate. |
