Wa'alaikum Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

Best thing is to go see a doctor 'cause it can be either bacterial or can be viral. In case its bacterial, u'll need antibiotics. As for the home remedies, do the following:

1- Take some pain-reliever+anti-inflammatory like Acetaminophen (available on-counter with the name Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (available on-counter with the name Motrin).

2- Drink lots of fluids (which I guess u are already doing by taking milk).

3- Salt water gargles (with 'warm' water). That's one of the most effective things.

And AVOID anything COLD. InshaAllah, u'll recover soon. May Allah make it easy for u (Ameen).

Wassalam.

Try some vitamin C, the chewable kind, they're really soothing, plus good for you.

Fudgesicles are also good for sore throats (seriously thats on the authority of my family doctor) they soothe your throat so it doesn't ache so much :)

La bas, tahoor insha Allah :)  Just think of everything that's getting erased by your soar throat :)
Try this recipe:
-Bismillah
-juice of half a lemon (straight!)
-followed by a spoonful of honey.

Probably too late for this...
My favorite sore throat remedy is some good cinnamon and ginger tea. It's even better if you have the ginger root itself, and let it boil with a pinch of tea and cinnamon and honey. But ginger powder can do it too. It's awesome for the throat.
May Allah grant you shifaa sis.

Let me add to the honey and lemon thing:

If you put it on a WOODEN spoon, then add some freshly ground pepper, and heat it up so that it becomes really liquid...it really has a good effect.  A day max, and you'll be okay, inshaAllah.

(I hate my GP, she always asks me really irrelevant questions...so I've never seen her for a sore throat :)  )

Wasalaam.

Ginger juice and honey worked for me. I had a sore throat and later, a cold. I grated ginger (without the skin), squeezed out the juice, warmed it and mixed it with honey, and then drank it. It burned my throat, but that's what made it work. I let it burn for a few minutes without drinking water or anything else. Sore throat was gone the next day. As for the cold, have you tried using a steam tent?

Usually when I have these long sorethroats, the only remedy that seems to work is time. Hot tea (The hotter the better) usually soothes it. If you dont take tea then try Heated milk.
