A run in with biggotry

I know that we are all quite realistic and know that this world has prejudice and people who discriminate etc. But when it happens to you in a bold manner, you are left speechless.

I recently found myself needing to find out the name of a street that was not marked and proceeded to ask people walking into the building I was at. Many people replied that they did not know. Then came along a gentleman who seemed to be of an african/carribean origine. When I asked him the same questin he replied, " I dont know [paused] but even if I did, I wouldn't  tell YOU[stressed]." I thought he was joking but he looked me straight in the eye, in a stern manner and walked off.

Very rarely am I left speechless like I was at that moment. It was so unexpected that for a few min I was rooted to the spot.
I know that it was a slight thing but, it really hurt to be put through that. I did not want to accept that my hijab had caused it. But all my friends who were there, with me, and some who heard him, said that, it was.

I wish that I had been better prepared to react to this kind of thing but I was standing outside a museum and assumed that those who visited one were open minded and went their in the quest for knowledge and wisdom.

I just wanted to share this with you all, so that you don't remain as naive I was to the kind of prejudice that goes around.

This has made me value my open minded non-muslim friends even more.  :)
