Single Khalifa to rule the muslims

As per in Quran there should be one single ruler a Khalifa for the entire muslims..but unfortunately there are non now a days. Could anyone explain on this issue.  The reason of many groups within Islam due to no strong single pious ruler. The non muslims are confused with different opinion from different groups when they try to learn Islam.  Like the Thalaban..in Afghanistan was so extream which made some to have a misunderstanding on Islam.

Please make you statment if any of you believe there should be a single person rule the muslims.. Like the POPE..

Assalaamu alaikum

I agree that there are many groups present today within the muslim community that it it
has led to widespread misconceptions about islaam and the muslim way of life. In theory
the muslims should have one leader, however the khilafa would be no comparison to the
pope!! The reality of the situation of the world today, means that it is impossible to have a
khilafa, primarily because the main problem lies within the muslim community. I have been
shocked at the ideas and methodologies of certain groups within the muslim community who
are causing havoc, spreading hate, and carrying out bad character in the name of Islaam.

Thank you very much  annonymous...
There are some major groups misguiding the muslim youth as you stated and trying to give a bad picture about muslims and trying picture the muslims as terrorist even.   It is better we discuss on this issue pointing out the groups each of us knew so and warning the false Islamic sites

By this we can minize  for some extend the youth not to get misguided

I long for the day when muslims are united under one khalifahship.  But, that wont happen until all muslims learn to love and respect each other.  Nowadays, there is too much pride, arrogance, and racism in the islamic ummah.  I doubt an arab would ever give bay'a or follow anyone of color or not an arab.  Many foreignors especially westerners don't trust or feel a closeness with arabs because of this superiority complex many have.  I think if we worked  on our brotherhood (and sisterhood), then we can produce pious leaders and eventually a single khalifah.

Your sister in Islam  :-)

Allah (awj) says in the Qur'an:

Inna haadhihi ummatukum ummatun waaHidah, wa anaa rabbukum fa3budoon/fattaqoon.

That is, verily this ummah of yours (O Muhammad) is (meant to be) a single ummah; and I am the Lord of all of you, so worship/fear [two variations in two different places] Me (alone)!

Besides the Qur'an and the Sunnah, the actions of our salaf, especially the first generation (the Sahaabah), especially the khulafaa ar-Rashidoon, are also a source of guidance and derivation of fiqhi rulings for us.  They showed us how to practically apply the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah in our daily lives.  As individuals, as members of a family, a community and a nation!

Having said that, look at what Abu Bakr did right after the death of Rasulullah (saw).  According to the books of Islamic history, the Prophet's body (saw) was not even laid to rest until the leader of the Muslims was chosen.

One leader.

To lead one nation.

And the people understood its importance well, as they all came to pledge their allegiance at the hand of Abu Bakr (r.a.)

It doesn't stop there, even though that should be enough to answer the question.  Abu Bakr (r.a.) did not die before naming a successor after him - again realizing the importance of having one single leader.

And then when the Islamic nation had expanded from Morocco to Khurasaan at the time of Umar's death - when there really could be a case made for having more than one leadership, to "divide up" the responsibility of managing the affairs of the ummah - Umar made sure one single leader would lead the ummah of Muhammad (saw) after he died.  For this he assigned a committee (of 6 people, with his son being the seventh in case there was a tie), and made all arrangements for the next khalifa to be chosen by a shoora of well-respected individuals, and only then did he depart this world.

And finally at the time of Ali's khilafah, the fitnah that occurred between him and Mu'awiyah (radiAllahu anhumaa), is another answer to your question.  Why was Ali fighting Mu'awiyah?  Why couldn't he just let him rule Shaam and the surroundings, and he could rule the rest of the Islamic world.  Why not have two leaders, two nations?

Inna haadhihi ummatukum ummatan waaHidah ....

Wallaahu ta'ala a'lam.

P.S. It goes without saying, of course, that the unity that we so ernestly desire between us will *not* come as a result of a single khalifah being there.  Rather, it is the other way around.  Khilafah is the result, not the means, to achieve unity.  Great leaders like Salahuddin did not produce a great nation.  It was a great nation that produced Salahuddin!  Look up what the year was when Salahuddin retook Jerusalem from the crusaders.  And then look up which years Imam Ghazali and Abdul Qadir Jeelani passed away.  It was the hard work of these two scholars (and many others) which raised the generation of Salahuddin.  And Salahuddin was a product of that generation.   A geneation of ilm and of taqwaa.

Salaam

Just a note, that as far as I was aware it was Muhammad Al Fateh that conqered
Constantinople.....Salauddin recaptured teh region that is now Palestine/Israel from the Crusaders.

I agree that it was the great nations that produced great leaders. Today we have ignorant
nations that are creating ignorant leaders!!

I am most concerned with teh muslim youth that are being mislead by so called islamic
groups...I would not be suprised if the non muslims were funding these groups and the way in
which they are so secretive feeds this suspicion.

I have a question. Suppose that by some means a khilafah does come about, what would the position of muslims living in non-muslim lands have to be? Would they be required to migrate ? or would there be some sort of contract aggreement by the khalifa and leader of the non-muslim country so that the minority muslims can have islamic laws?what if the muslims have been living in minority there for centuries eg in India?

You are absolutely right!  That was a typo.  Jazak Allahu Khairan for the correction.  I've made the change in my original post.

Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

I don;t think we are in a position to be talking about the Khilafah. The
muslims need to sort their lives out and control themselves before they start thinking about
controlling the world!!! The companians of the prophet were exceptional, they had the
correct understanding and therefore could rule and lead after the prophet (saw) passed away.
Today we don not have many muslims with the correct understanding or knowledge. In fact
the muslim ummah is in a mess!! Even if the land and the people were given to teh muslims,
they would not be able to rule it successfully!

wasalaam everyone

[The muslims need to sort their lives out and control themselves before they start thinking about controlling the world!!! ]

Question: Do Muslims need to control the world???  Shouldn't we set an example (after sorting ourselves ourt first, i.e.) for the world to emulate? After all, our Deen covers all angles of life (worldly and akheera).  Islam is a civilization by itself.  We need to demostrate that Islamic civilization. We do not need to control the world.
