salaams, i have a few questions, i was hoping you guys could help me out. these are things that have been bugging me for some time - i guess they're just little things really. jazakallahu khairun for any help/guidance brothers and sisters. 1) when making du'a is it wrong to say for example 'Oh Allah swt please let me get married this year?' (ie is it wrong to specify 'this year') 2) when making du'a after the salah do you do it after the fard salah or after you have completed the salah (sunna as well. i means say you pray maghrib 3 fard, 2 sunnah and any nafl if you have time, do you read the du'a after the fard or after the sunnah/nafl?) 3) if someone pays you a compliment (well done on your grades, or that outfit looks nice etc) is it okay to say 'thank you, alhamdulillah' ?- that way you are not taking the credit. i have a few more questions but inshallah i'll post them another time. |

[slm] I dont see anything wrong in putting a time limit. Isn't it common for people to ask: "O Allah! Give me the opportunity to make Hajj this year and visit the Masjid of your Nabee" ? |

I would just like to add that there are adaab to follow when asking Allah anything or saying anything about Allah Looking at What musa Says when he meets one of the Ladies of Madyan: 28:24 :"O my Lord! truly am I in (desperate) need of any good that Thou dost send me!" Yaquub he was sick and of a long time he did not ask Allah to cure him of his illness. But when he does look at the words he uses: And (remember) Job, when He cried to his Lord, "Truly distress has seized me, but Thou art the Most Merciful of those that are merciful." Khidir Defames the boat and it was not his wish but he was following command of Allah, but nonetheless he attribute the "negative" to himslef "As for the boat, it belonged to certain men in dire want: they plied on the water: I but wished to render it unserviceable, for there was after them a certain king who seized on every boat by force. Even the Jinn know the adaab. They say: (72:10) And we understand not wheather ill is intended to those on earth or wheather their lord intends to guide them to right conduct pay attention to "ill intended", even though it is Allah they are refering to they do not mention Him by in the negative but they do mention "their Lord" in the positive. Just some general guidelines in our dua. I hope we all benefit from the duas of the Prophets found in the Quran. We can learn so much from them [wlm]. |

[slm] Jazakallahu khairan Ibn Turab, and congrats on your first post! MashaAllah, a lot of wisdom :) Allah, out of His Infinite Mercy, may answer our dua' for something, when we ask of Him, provided we fulfill the conditions for making dua'. The best duas are those mentioned in the Qur'an or hadith. However, Allah gives to the one who is busy in His remembrance more than one who calls on Him often with requests. Making a dua' for a material thing within a specific time limit may indicate one is impatient with the Divine Decree and does not have sufficient dependence on His rizq. Allah may answer this dua, out of His Kindness, and yet it may result in the requestor bringing misfortune on himself. Indeed, we may sometimes bring harm upon ourselves by our very dua. Much like a child who places a toy on his Ramadhan wish list, a supplicant may request a material item of some sort in this world. Wouldn't it be better if the he said "rectify my wrongs and make me worthy of the numerous blessings that I have." ? If one cannot appreciate the blessings that are already in his possession, then certainly adding more wealth can bring him no increase in satisfaction. However, asking for a material thing that may bring us closer to Allah can be beneficial. For example, seeking a wife to live a more chaste life. However, if getting the wife becomes one's sole objective, it becomes problematic. Probably the best course of action is to maintain one's focus on remembering, obeying, and pleasing Allah and placing one's Trust in Allah, and asking of the dunya for akhira's sake. More often than not, if we turn our faces towards Allah, His Splendour guides us toward higher and more meaningful aspirations. [quote]3) if someone pays you a compliment (well done on your grades, or that outfit looks nice etc) is it okay to say 'thank you, alhamdulillah' ?- that way you are not taking the credit. [/quote] Good idea! :) |
